  1. Things done since last post: forgot to put rego on hold for the last six months, ouch.
  2. Haha this thread is fucking lol, I've trollololed over your car more than enough in person at JZX meets and I actually expected a much harsher response from the os members. Either you're man enough to take all the brunt, or oldschool have calmed down and become more civilised. I remember being around when a dude who thought cheviot turbos were worth a 2k was literally laughed away. Chuck some recent pics up, haven't seen it for a while.
  3. I have converted my mk5 to an efi fuel setup during my efi conversion. I mounted it all on the platform in the boot just behind the rear seat. With 3 fuel lines(feed/return/overflow) coming through a hole in the floor which I cut above/to the drivers side of the fuel tank. I replaced all the standard plastic fuel line with 5/16 bundy tube so it is up to the task of efi fuel pressure. All of my set up is in the boot apart from the fuel lines. My setup is as follows: Fuel tank feed v Low pressure fuel filter v Holley Blue low pressure pump v Surge tank v VL efi pump v efi fuel filter v fuel rail v Adjustable fuel reg v Back to surge tank v Surge tank overflow into fuel tank return If I remember I will get some photos over the weekend...
  4. Here is my annual update: Decided that before I moved out my last flat that I would give her the once over while I still had a double garage to work in. Fixed the majority of the rust and sealed the usual areas with a coat of por15. Dug out a shit load of suspect looking bog jobs/fixed surface rust beneath and redone. Pulled off the rest of my fibreglassed on front lip (got munted putting car into a trailer once, putting mk5 sport one on instead) Gave her a fresh lick of paint. Turned to shit so sanded/flattened said fresh lick of paint off with 400 to make it look marginally better. Moral of the story - Dont use paint which has been sitting on the shelf for 5 years as it WILL ruin all your hard prep work. Pieced together a shiney intake pipe with old bits of piping Finally got my act together to try get her tuned right with the megasquirt -Replaced original fuel reg with a aftermarket adjustable one with guage -Set fuel pressure lower than it probably was with old fuel reg (running vr4 450cc injectors which are a tad too large while im still NA so set fuel pressure @ 32psi so I could get a decent injector PW) -Changed injector timing to 4 pulses/alternating rather than what was working best before 2 pulses/simulatenous (think i still might try 2 pulses/alternating and raising fuel pressure) -Purchased TunerStudio to make use of their useful built in calculators as a good starting point (VE table and target afr) -After much screwing around and recalibration of the wideband o2 sensor, took her for a drive while running VE analyse live and it seemed to do an awesome job and resulted in a pretty decent afr throughout the range. Things to do: Hook electric fan up to MS Rewire loom through different hole in firewall (doh should have planned this one better) Tidy up interior (my door cards are looking very neglected and the cat ripped up what was left of my carpet) Get wof and put lower springs back in the front Repaint or perhaps vinyl wrap Drive it over summer like a boss
  5. yep genuine, 19x9 and 19x10 unknown offsets 35ish is my guess
  6. New body kit New wheels Empty wallet 13.8@105mph
  7. worthless update, but im gonna pull this out of the garage this weekend. I had a bit of rust fixed last xmas and now pretty much just needs a proper fuel map on the megasquirt...
  8. might be too late.... but i did a write up on the sierra electronic ignition years ago. its on these forums even! //oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=5064
  9. Its been a while but its now running with EFI manifold and megasquirt This is all after numerous teething problems such as the ecu going up in smoke after frying the injector driver due to the low impedence vr4 injectors, have remedied that issue now with a injector resistor pack off a honda. Its just NA for now to keep thing simple as im moving house soon and want to be able to drive it there. Pics will follow when I have a bit of time to move it out of the garage into some proper light. Also need to take it for a road tune, pretty interested to see how well the wideband works.
  10. This things so sweet, love how low-key it all looks at this point. I can just imagine how loose this is when its greasy, my 1j is dangerous enough. What are your plans for it body wise? just tucked rims under guards, or are you looking at slapping on some form of body kit?
  11. I dont think they can do eye - eye style shocks, but best to ring and ask. Easy enough getting shorter shocks of that style anyway.
  12. Yep give autolign a call, they are out by sylvia park, carbine road I think? I have used them before and it was roughly $50 per shock.
  13. haha lotto eh, youre not doing the car justice until its manual, i remember the first time i drove mine manual, i had a grin on my face for the whole night. i reckon it was/felt 20% faster and after the initial excitement of it being manual, a much safer car to drive, theres just something about being more directly in control of the engine with a clutch, chopping down gears etc is sweet its mostly all of the reason i didnt end up highflowing the turbo, was so keen to keep the response between gears, laggy would suuuuuuck
  14. convert it to manual man, they turn into completely different cars
  15. Nah nah, its was just a standard rebuild, bar the steel wheel. I had originally told him i wanted to highflow it similar to what you had done, but i decided to just keep things standard for now as it is my daily driven car and I have no intention in upgrading fueling/ecu anytime in the near future. In saying that, now that its steel wheeled I can now safely wind the boost up past 1bar without fear of a ceramic turbo shitting itself, should go mental as with anything over 1bar, already mental enough on standard boost, convert yours to manual and you'll understand
  16. So the original turbo on the car did this to the turbine wheel(fin snapped off): So i managed to track down a good deal on a second hand turbo, which went awesome for a week or so, then decided to do this: So i then had to fish out all of this stuck in the cat: So with the two busted turbos, steve murch came up with this: Fully rebuilt, new seals, new shaft and more importantly a steel turbine wheel: And while it was off the road i painted the wheels: And bought some personalised plates: I then gave her a nice full tank of 98 New turbo goes mint, am planning to get a boost controller and increase the boost to 1.0 bar. Painting the wheels have also made it look a million times better
  17. Got bored and pulled the trd sticker off the bonnet, i think i prefer the clean look.
  18. This afternoon/night was spent putting the replacement turbo on which i got off flawles. Goes hard, even harder than before and bonus is that it holds a constant 0.8bar rather than my old turbos 0.7bar Now hopefully i dont break this one before ive sorted out/gathered all parts for a turbo upgrade.
  19. it would be nice to do it that way, but im pretty keen to get it back the road asap, being that its my daily. also im the type of guy who shops around getting every possible part needed for ages before any action happens, which means the chaser would probably be off the road for months
  20. Took it down to NSDW the other night, only managed to get 3 runs in before the weather turned to shit. Best run was 14.351 @ 162.42km/h, i need to sort out my launch/60ft (.565/2.336) then ill be into the 13s In other news, turbo started making grinding noises on boost yesterday, I took it off and noticed that im missing one fin off the ceramic turbine which was putting the shaft out of balance and making it scrape on the housing. Possible reasons for this? Before the drags i took the silencer out of the exhaust for the first time which gave the car a massive power increase/possible over boosting and/or also not letting the car cool down properly after a pretty spirited drive Plan is to get a replacement turbo to get it back on the road, then start researching other turbo options to give it a bit more kick
  21. mmm, i keep seeing that "one" on trademe during my browsing, ive looked at the auction a countless number of times

    vr4 gearbox

yeh as fuel said, im pretty sure that you'll find that one of the shift linkages will have come lose from its mounting point on top of the gearbox. Its happened numerous times in my galant and its always been the same story, of one of the clips coming loose or completely falling off.
  23. i dont usually play, im just excited driving it now that its manual, and i was excited to see you. 1jz battle etc haha yeh, i'm aware of that flappyness, i kind of secretly want it to come off so i have an excuse to replace it with something less obtrusive
  24. Shit, this car looks so mint driving along. Was quite upset you wouldn't give it a bit of a fang for me on the motorway today in the chaser
  25. This has crossed my mind, i doubt the cortina will ever hit the spot when I finally get round to finishing it
