Not cranking over

I went and plugged the computer back in before and now i would have thought that everything being hooked up, turning the key would at least crank the starter motor over?? All I can hear is a small click and thats about all, batt is fine to.

Anyone got any ideas why its not cranking over/have a missed something obvious possibly? Keen for any ideas and help at this stage right now..

Give the starter a tap with a hammer. It might be the solenoid. Thats as far as I can help rofl

Meh tryed it haha. Might not even be the starter motor clicking, could be the computer, shit this is frustrating me

The points in the starter relay could be trucked. Grab a new relay see if that fixes it

at a guess, I would say that the battery terminals arent getting enough contact, try cleaning the terminals and really shove them onto the battery

brushes could be shagged in the sterter too, but usually the hammer routine gets it to go.

good conection of the high current cable from battery to starter? turn motor over by hand and try again? nice big earth cable from motor to body and battery to body / motor and good conections?

Ah yes, have forgotten to put the motor to body earth cable on, hopefully thats it then, engine mount to bare metal on body somewhere will be the go there then wont it? Fingers crossed this works

Unfortunatly not! I think il go and sand down where it connects to the body some more and try get a better connection but its not looking good

Maybe use a voltmeter to see if your getting the power to starter?

Just tried a volt meter on it, the batt cable to the starter motor has got power going to it.. Buggered starter motor maybe??

*Edit* Ok its not the starting motor clicking, its not the computer clicking, its one of these small black boxes that clicks when you turn the key as if you were to turn the car on, that any help to anyone trying to figure whats up here?

Sure you've got connections set up right in regard to ignition wiring to solenoid etc?

I had the same problem man, was my main earth lead. Was corroded on the inside under the shrink wrap from sitting too long, so check all that shit

those small black boxes are relays, clicking means its working.

if you unhook your horns for example by unplugging them, if you push the horn button you'll hear the relay clicking.

pull the starter motor out and put 12v on it with a battery.

its good fun

Check there is a signal going to the solenoid FROM that relay, get test light onto wire that comes FROM it and get someone to crank. Will light if there is, which would indicate it's not the prob.

Also, check all those earth and power leads for corrosion

All it would take is a loose wire or improperly crimped wire in the starter relay and fuse circuit. Where all those wires go into the plastic crimped section, give them a little push and or pull, if any slide out, it's likely your problem. The start circuit requires good connections and power.

Either your wiring from the relays 12V switch is up the fuck.

Or im pretty sure the solenoid would do sumthing if it got some power.

Check for power at its end when you turn the key.

OK so i just checked the other wire going to the starter motor, and when you turn the key, its getting power, so must be the starter motor then? Ive got another starter motor here, think its the same from memory, will go hunt it out and give it a try.

Changed the starter motor over and it started cranking over :D So damn happy right now, first engine noise ive heard from it in a year, now I just gota run the fuel lines and itl be ready to fire up!
