davidian
im pretty shure the 1300 and 1600 boxes are the same, unless youre talking rs or mex or something dunno bout speeds tho coz ive always ran a 5speed and never had a speedo
Gaz
Depends if the diff is an auto diff or not. I run a 1300 auto diff with my 5sp and 2litre. When i ha that diff with my 1600 i could get 140 but that was bout it unless pushed past 5.5g Dunno bout the other gears.
Stacov
its the 1300 manual diff yeah i never had a speedo intill like 2 days ago and saw what speed it was doing in each gear specialy in 1st and 2nd u dont get much and it revs out quick kinda annoying anyone on this forum hooked up the 5speed to the 1600 pushrod? and yes i already know of that website that tells u how to do it. i wanta know is it worth it
esky boi
My esky is a 1300, with 32/36 weber carb, and extractors and freeflow exhaust, the gearbox and diff are standard. In each gear it does: 40 ish in 1st 60 ish in 2nd 80 ish in 3rd and about 140 in 4th These speeds all read about 5000 rpm on the tacho, it'll rev to 5 grand pretty quickly in 1st and 2nd. Revving to the redline (5800) it should be possible to get even more speed out of each gear, but it just doesnt sound like its loving it too much up there tho, so I havent done that yet
Toucan
I can push 2nd to 60kms, and this is at about 5500rpm. Can't remember figures of the other gears but im sure I've posted them before.
kyteler
I can get roughly 120kph in third, with 2 to go. However my speedo reading is slow due to the wrong amount of teeth on the gear cog, I don't tend to go much faster than that ever though and usually only when passing. Speeding is naughty. Then again... I dont have a Pusscort, so this is of no use to you.

peteretep
ive done 155 in 4th in my 1300, my cars got no seals on the windows so i couldnt hear anything at that speed so i dont know what my engine sounded like and no tacho
esky boi
It would have been ringing its nuts off man, 140 is bad enough lol. How long were you at that speed for?
peteretep
probably 20 seconds coz i was wondering if i should push it any harder as i was pretty sure it was screaming hehe
Guest ldgracie
Search the net it will tell you what ratios each gears are for each model. There was a guy on trade me selling a 3.5 diff which would be taller than what youve got by the sounds of it
Guest ldgracie
I used to have a 1600 OHC capri that 65k in 1st !
atropine
you want ratios? standard escort type2 box.. 3.656:1 2.185:1 1.425:1 1.000:1 and standard diff is 4.11:1 i believe, 3.54:1 in sport/rs models.. may be wrong with the existance of 3.89:1 and all that.. my escort approximate speeds.. taken from memory with assistance of ratio calculator my 4dr, 1600 with type2 box and 4.11 1 40 2 70 3 100-110 4 140-150 my sport with typeE corty box and 3.54 1 50 2 90 3 130 4 180 my sport with zetec, 3.54 and type9 sierra (all ratio calculator here..) and dont ever expect me to try to find these top speeds maybe 1st and 2nd.. 1 60-65 2 115 3 165 4 230 5 265 thats taken the engines builders approx redline (so 5th probably wouldnt go that high on the salts) and an unsure 5th gear ratio.. i heard theyre 0.86:1 but ive also heard of 0.83:1 and 0.76:1 so i dont know.. they would up the top speed though....(0.76:1 bumps the top speed up from 265 to 300kph..) anyone got a definate idea on the 5th ratios on type9 sierras? atropine
but yeah.. 155 retep? is it standard box and 4.11:1 diff? cuz unless you were shooting down a hill or had biggish wheels that would be really hard with a 1300 5800redline (we can all agree to this right?) 1.000:1 final gear (that would usual in most 4speeds..) 4.11:1 diff (thats standard) now wheels.. both my escorts have 590mm diameter wheels.. ie. 185/70r13s and 195/60r14s.. thats bigger than most escorts.. a 215/50r13 for example is only 545mm.. a 205/60r13 is 575mm so 5800rpm, 1:1gear, 4.11:1 diff, and 590mm wheel gives.. 156kph.. 575mm wheel give 152kph, 545mm gives 144kph.. so youd want quite a big wheel and need to ring the life out of it.. pushing between 140 and 150 is hard going in my 1600.. probably havent topped 145.. its got the potential for more but that last 500rpm isnt happy time.. kyteler
My guess would be smaller wheels than normal giving a higher speedo reading, rather than 155 in 4th. At a guess.. if he was on stock wheels.. well.. you never know! stranger things have happened.
atropine
well smaller wheels wont actually make your speedo go higher, just higher than youre doing. so if youre doing 140kph, and put on smaller wheels so youre only doing 130kph, the speedo will still say 140kph.. cant get the speedo to go higher.. just higher than what your doing.. and as for my 5th gears.. just looked in the burton catalogue.. they sell type9s with 0.82s, 0.87s and 0.93s (or kits for them).. so now i have 6 ratios to ponder between
