    Kwaka Z650

Yep was on Tardme. This is what tempted me away from the CB400 I almost bought (that I spoke with you about.) So far have rewired the Dynatec coils correctly, fixed oil leak due to oil pressure wire being trapped under clutch cover, replaced oil pressure feed wire and tidied up the wiring. Replaced the gasket on clutch cover and o-ring on kick starter. Removed sump and cleaned, soon to replace sump gasket and oil filter. Need to recheck my valve clearances and shim as necessary. Then will balance carbs and ride the friggin thing!
  3. ahhhh finally some pics. Tis a wee beauty!

    Kwaka Z650

    After recently selling this; I wanted something with a bit of old school flava flav but had more open road ease. The Bullet was great round town, it just didn't go fast, or stop fast, or change gears all the time. ALMOST bought an immaculate 70's CB350f and a CB400f but after reading heaps on them about them screaming at 100km/h I decided to go bigger. Anyways found/fell in love with a Kawasaki Z650 aka KZ650. This one was imported in 1998 from Holland so is badged a Z650. It is a C3 model with alloy wheels, twin disc front and single disc rear brakes. Some good bugger has installed a Dyna S electronic ignition and coils on it too - yum. I rode it back from Martinborough and the ride was about 500% better than the Enfield! Anyway have started pulling apart as I want a cafeish brat style bike. Polished a few bits here and there, fixed a leak where the old owner had caught the oil pressure line under the clutch cover and was leaking/causing oil press light to come on. Waiting on a few more bits to arrive so I can fully clean / oil change the engine. It came with an almost complete 2nd basket case bike too, which I have almost fully stripped. It will come in handy when coming up with a seat pan and having the second frame. I really want a wrenchmonkees style seat like this; I have put some clubman bars on. I replaced the ugly super long front brake hose (with giant spring) by using a braided one found on the basket case - score! I am rewiring the coils with a relay to allow full power spark. As I got it (from Tardme) : I have stripped the tank off the second bike and placed it on for kicks. (quite like the rat, bare metal look!) Polish effort on clutch cover , waiting for an oil seal for the kick start so thought may as well shine it up a bit;
  5. thanks for the link, it shows L20A rods as being 135mm instead of 133mm like L24. Guess that was the issue. Um $850 USD for a Kameari pulley kit? + shipping + GST? Thats gonna be around 1300 NZD, what is wrong with ATI super dampers? Or even a BMW damper conversion like DJZ (and a shit ton of other Z users run? Then you could afford your GTR grille
  6. Do you have that program "Nissan L6 engine builder v0.1 1999 Sydney Z car club Australia" Can't find it on net. I agree with DJZ, he should know a bit, had a L31 etc. Start with an L28, thats 400cc/16.666666% more right out of the box.
  7. I wish I kept mine now, especially the RX-5 because I have never seen a tidy one in NZ pre or since I owned them. Then again I guess every ol'skool piner on here regrets getting rid of at least one car. I did keep the "RE-130AP" badge which I sold back then for $150 due to its rarity. Hate to think what one is worth these days. Been waiting around for R100 to finish his for about 14 years...... One day ay Andrew? Keep the updates coming Yetchh, its refreshing to see something unique on here
  8. Crushed just after they were advertised and no takers, so 6 ish years ago. From what I can remember about 121s/RX-5s they have the same floor plan as RX-4 and body styling was specifically designed for American market. Americans didn't like them at all and they were a major flop with frig all sales. Didn't help they are about 100kg heavier than an RX-4 and the ol' rotary engine rep was already in ruins due to their heavy gas consumption/oil crisis.
  9. Nice! 12 years in storage, now that's an effort for a 121! Guess these things have increased in value recently. About 6 years ago I could not get $500 for a 121 and an original RX-5 (less motor and had auto box) Your right about the interior, I have had a few 121s and an RX-5 over the years. Every one I have seen has either been maroon, shit green or dark blue. Dumbest thing is their unique stud pattern. Here is a picture of the brother to my old car on the Wellington dock when it first arrived (one number in license different): And how it ended up, prior to being crushed as above, could not sell But this = best RX-5 ever
  10. Did you swap with Tony or sell RX-3 and buy Tony's? Both awesome cars, love em both
  11. Rolling the double skinned rear guards with a guard roller?!?! Your brave, I hope you don't make them wavy.
  12. Veg I don't think I have ever seen this, even on 'ol datsun.co.nz . Its AWESOME! DO WANT!
  13. Please please please prime the oil pump prior to starting engine, I have had several passionate Z head racers EXCLAIM to me its a biggie for these motors.
  14. Nice base to start with. Haven't seen chicken wire lurking in sills (as a shape to form bog over) for ages! My fav of all time which no doubt Z purists hate is the rat one: Of course it is highly impractical. I'm not a fan of G noses or headlight covers but flares on a Z - yus! If your going to go to the effort of cam etc you may as well get an L28, bolt in, 400cc bigger and still available cheaply if your quick enough on trademe. Its not worth spending hundreds on an L24 that when finished will still be slower than a second hand L28 for $200
  15. Back when I was at high school a mate had one of these. We used to give him shit all the time that it was a Lada. Now I think about how cool it actually was, it was mint, think his was a 69 and twin cam, which is incredible in itself, sideys etc...... So unique and rare, he had a bunch of 125T items and two full sets of interior one red one black. I really liked the interior. mean car. The only problem he had with it was the linkages on the sideys kept coming off or jamming when he nailed it. Anyway here is a pic. Yours looks like a real good example brings back many fond memories of going to the Mount for new years in 1998 (indently when this photo was taken - owner, "Anpanman" and me.) Keep up the good work, no new alloy wheels please!
  16. Nah you wont be able to roll GTR flares unless you cut a shit load of tin out of the guards especially the rear, ask Ky / look at his site. Happen to have a spare drivers side guard mirror or bonnet poppin handle/cable? Cheers
  17. The more I see these, the more I want one of my own..... Can't wait to get your impression of the L28ET, has it had much work? You also need to join www.nzdatsun.com really good following of Datto nuts there.
  18. Your projects are super tiiiiight Get it going by Akaroa next year
  19. Matty b or gunmetal looks real toit Did you widen them or did someone else? So keen to get a set widened.
  20. This has confirmed to me who you are, bought a 1300 coupe off you once upon a time. FFS you have had that RE130 car for at least 10 years have you done nothing with it? Last pic I saw was with the gold simmons and was gonna be a 20B if my memory from 10 years ago serves me correctly......
  21. That is awesome, so unique, glad to see a real nice example still exists!! I had a 121 and an RX-5 once, couldnt get rid of them both for $500 so they went to the scrappy (about 7 years ago) Have never seen a tidy RX-5 or 121 on the road in NZ. Only minor cosmetic differences on the outside, red rear reflectors on rear quarters, badges and that was about it from memory! The doors on these are shocking/notorious for rust along the bottom of the skin so fish oil them up!!! Difference inside was the redline was 1000rpm higher on the RX-5, thats it! These cars share the floor plan (and dash) with the RX-4. Designed specifically for the US market with its styling but was a huge flop everywhere except Japan! Im for keeping it original, it looks super tight, dont spoil that paint please ffs don't change it!! They only real GHEY thing about these is their stud pattern, its unique, one off shares its pattern with no other car let alone Mazda, think its 4 x 120 from memory.... Here are some pics of my ones for interests sake. White one was the RX-5
  22. I promise you that you WILL NOT find a better alarm installer. I have worked with Kane and known him now for years, I trust NO ONE else to go near my cars let alone install alarms. He will install to the highest standard, none of this brain hanging under the steering column bullshit that you get from 99% of installers. He is as careful with cars as you could ever imagine and has some impressive installs under his belt. He is a REAL enthusiast of cars, not a no springs, matt black painting fuckwit. There is no better installer for old school cars, no hacking metal or cutting and twisting wires, your car wont come back with extra dents or less petrol and a slipping clutch etc. I have heard plenty of horror stories NOT ONE COMPLAINT from Kanes customers. He will take care of your car and treat it like his own. He will never rip you off, is straight up and honest. He is too nice and you will understand when you meet the guy. He goes out of his way and has no criminal history. AND he backs everything he does. If you get anyone else in Wellington to do it you are a fool. He has installed hundreds with no complaints, ask anyone who has used Kane and they will give the same feedback as me. Plenty of people round Wellington know Kane and also know he is the man for most wiring problems, especially RB Nissan. By the way he is not paying me just a shout out for a real G.C
  23. Lock Dogg is having trouble finding decent offset wheels. Sportmax are the only available new x8 0 offset wheels available in NZ (other than Simmons) Didnt say they were the best option, they are the ONLY NZ new option
  24. Bro, stick with two tone, it rules my face. There are some Sport Max 002, mini light style wheels in 15x8 0 offset that can be brought new: Few ppl on here have them and they look tight. And I can hook you a good price on tyres still from M&T Kane still has/loves your wheels, he got them on a Coupe Cressida 2J project
