  1. otoh the school of thought I have subscribed to is that fishoil leeches into seams, whereas cavity wax (snigger) seals over seams and rust will continue in the seam. whatever you do, it should way improve your chances of keeping your japanese iron on the road in one piece instead of brown and flakey spec. my sigma wagon was basically bathed in fishoil, nil rust when sold. my bro had a 180B that was caught in a flood. he purchased it from insureres, dried it out, fishoil everywhere... no rust 4 years later, unheard of in 180B!
  2. the tyres of the time probably would have been 185/70/13. I really dig those wheels, because they're of the time as well. they'd deffo be JDM, IMHO. nice ride. my Dad had a 16L back in the 70's, really lusted for a GTO2000.
  3. great to see one on the road, and even better eastern-suburbs spec! top marks. looking forward to seeing this progress.
  4. yeah, it's awesome. I meant to comment on the cool LED lighting, couldn't find the discussion thread. keep it up, we're watching your progress. Are you planning on tripping around europe for the rest of the summer, as soon as it's completed?
  5. great thinking Ned, and really well explained too!
  6. whichever one wasn't replaced is prolly issuing a - err - vintage grumble
  7. yep, I reckon they look sharp. well done.
  8. curious. I'd have thought an inspection of your rego sticker reading 'KELTIK' with '2002 Subaru Legacy' should clear that up for them relatively quickly. 'hey, there must be some kind of sytems error - it's got a kosher rego sticker here. anything else I can help you with officer?'. perhaps the issue is that its fruitless trying to win an argument with an officer of the law. stick to the simple facts, and they'll give up when you stop getting riled. These guys often mirror ones behaviour, and if you're breezy and efficient they usually are too. the bigger the issue and more riled you get, the longer they spend toying with you. speeding through road works paints a very big target on you. the public would be dismayed to read of another road worker being maimed or killed so soon after one was shot dead. they're probably briefed and concious of that, and applying the 'front page news' test. in addition, roadworks demerits have gotta be quota points for jam for these guys.
  9. shit, any lazy genius will simply play tapes. job done!
  10. did the same thing years ago in my e30, had 125k mi on it, synthetic castrol into the gearbox and wham, slick shifting, no gently-gently required when cold. a simple but really useful improvement. (Alex I still have a record in my old maintenance spreadsheet of exactly which oil, if you're interested)
  11. yeah no more teasing, give us the pics #8 )
  12. prolly the same alarm they installed at Wiri in my former '96 maxima. they crap out. I had an installer remove the old alarm and install a dynatron something 4.5 or 5 star. took them some shagging around to interface with the door circuit, something to do with the old alarm.
  13. yeah bummer, trust your ankle heals up soon. car's looking grouse.
  14. wow, that's just like the one my Dad had as our family car when I was a lad, in the late 70's. in fact, it must be within a few months of our old one - less than 1500 plates between them (ours was april '73, IIRC). it'll be an nz-assembled 16L made at todd motors. ours was metallic green, with dark brown interior. yes, they rust out badly at the top of the guard, below the A pillar - I think there's a mud trap around there. it's a feature. you even have the original factory door mirror. might I suggest you don't put wing mirrors on, they were the preserve only of the GS japanese assembled editions (my mate's Dad ran one of them, orange with black interior and the white GS stripes on the seats. great to see one of these on the road. you even have the original wheels - kudos. thanks for the nostalgia trip!
  15. someone's wife once mentioned that to me #; )
  16. committed to the crusher/shredder, dude.
  17. need photos or it didn't happen. what did you buy?
  18. how come you never considered the 1159? they breathed better than the 1256 in my experience; my old HC was an early one with the 1159. shame you're selling it!
  19. thanks for that, I'll commit that to the memory banks may be very useful!
  20. is that because the oil for diesels has more detergents?
  21. perhaps all of the solvent's gone now, and it didn't set while it was there. you could try a heat gun to set it. I'd be freezing it off, doing that section again, and ensuring there was some heat *NOT A NAKED FLAME*. BAKING on a sunny day might help.
