Mine just fits a small motorbike carb body in it Yeah I equate 2L to an ice cream container, I was thinking nuts and bolts and things, but scope may creep in the future Quote
tortron Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 10L minimum imo and needs to be heated 2 Quote

tortron Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 Just now, GARDRB said: Why not just use an old bath? I think you need to consider power and spacing of the sonicators? Vibrators? For effective cleaning. But yeah if my acid dissolved one still has a usable control board, I'm putting it on a big stockpot or something. The one I have I think was 12L. Pretty good size, ran into a few things where a bigger one would have been better. But could, for example, run quad carbs in there several times in different positions to get the whole thing. Being able to fit say 4 mason jars in there at once for small components was also very useful 1 Quote
ThePog Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 So I am about to pick up that Jaycar unit, mostly because the carbs on the Fiat have issues, ie one of the idle mixture circuits does not appear to work so is probably clagged up, plus they are dirty as fuck anyway. From what I have read on here a few squirts of dishwashing liquid and clean water is safest? And how long to run it for? Chur Quote
tortron Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 My machine would does 30 min cycles. I'd usually do 2 of them. Good to agitate/rinse as the ultrasonic doesn't really do that My normal mix is a good squirter of dishwash, 70ish degree heat, 30 min. Twice *you can use naughty never to use stuff like petrol or aggressive thinners to help shift varnish. I have never had one explode yet. Usually in a smaller covered jar or similar. Quote

What is this jar situation? I don't understand.. Quote

If you put a glass jar inside an ultrasonic cleaner, the vibrations will travel through it quite well. This let's you fill the cleaner with normal water and use something stronger to clean in just the jar. You can also use ziploc bags. Plastic containers apparently absorb the vibrations a bit If you have something like multiple cards. It can help for keeping everything seperate as well. 5 1 Quote
anglia4 Posted November 14, 2024 Author Posted November 14, 2024 The jar is also good for keeping hold of all the screws and jets and things to make them easy to fish out when the liquid is hot 3 Quote
GARDRB Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Ok, Jaycar ultrasonic cleaner review. Showed up this morning. It has a maximum run time of 480 seconds which is a bit shit. So far I've cleaned my watch strap and phone case and a comb I found in the bathroom. I'm assuming with the short run time I'm gonna be disappointed, but it's definitely a gateway cleaner. Just after one use, I want a gruntier one. 3 Quote
Lord Gruntfuttock Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 How satisfying is seeing the initial cloud of gunge come off something though...? 2 Quote
Lord Gruntfuttock Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 I bought a 6.5 litre one off Ali, sized to fit bike carbs, love using it. I did wonder about just buying transducers and making my own up from a suitably sized stainless bath/basket setup. Wouldn't be hard to do... Quote

I wonder if the control board can be replaced with a manual switch. Quote
Bling Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Pretty sure the manual mentions how long to wait before giving it another run. So i'd say just crappy duty cycle and pushing it would end in the world turning inside out. Quote
ThePog Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Just as well it was cheap... /Goes go scour marketplace. Quote
anglia4 Posted November 20, 2024 Author Posted November 20, 2024 I got this one. 10L 360W. Chosen purely because none of the other sellers would ship the bigger units to NZ and it came with an NZ/AU plug option. No complaints, seems to work very well. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005071469599.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.pcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller.2.64faokCsokCsbn&gps-id=pcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller&scm=1007.40000.327270.0&scm_id=1007.40000.327270.0&scm-url=1007.40000.327270.0&pvid=0cd1b5a9-e00a-4c45-8c66-1dad5031f3e8&_t=gps-id%3ApcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller%2Cscm-url%3A1007.40000.327270.0%2Cpvid%3A0cd1b5a9-e00a-4c45-8c66-1dad5031f3e8%2Ctpp_buckets%3A668%232846%238113%231998&pdp_npi=4%40dis!NZD!152.28!95.94!!!656.38!413.52!%402103010c17270492533791472e1ebb!12000031525343271!rec!NZ!705824059!XZ&utparam-url=scene%3ApcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller|query_from%3A&search_p4p_id=202409221654134235258131620581375507_1&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR1jogeKCKUi6pPDJonmJzG-7IbQDAxLYKYRQyRpq4rANAmeYm933K7qmQU_aem_FtCIzbtyGry513x146pt-g 1 Quote
tortron Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 That's the same as mine. Is good. I saw someone using the 30L one and you can fit a 4cyl cylinder head in it 3 Quote
Corbie Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 We have a 30L one at work. Agree you could fit a 4cyl head. Probably a bit too shallow for a block though. 100°C for 30mins should take care of most things Quote
