Unclejake Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Folks, I've had a pretty major setback this week and need to get a tractor stub axle tube, a cast hub and an annulus repaired and reassembled with new bearings and seals. Christchurch is a reasonable option as the parts agent is in CHCH for the bearings and seals (and may be able to do the job too, but I haven't heard back from them yet). I don't need any teeth or splines cut, but I figure I'll need at least three components built up with weld and then lathed. The cast hub repair might be tricky. I'd need the machinist to collect the broken bits from a freight depot near CHCH airport. Total package weight around 30kgs I guess Any recommendations? https://www.youtube.com/shorts/mvw7SXXi7WY Quote
GregT Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Try Robin Gibbens Engineering. In house TIG, turning and general machining. Known him for years, does a lot of fabrication and machining for the local speedway boys. Just google the name for contact details. 1 Quote
Valiant Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Justin Neil Engineering might be a good option. 1 Quote
Unclejake Posted November 26, 2023 Author Posted November 26, 2023 Thanks chaps. I have found someone in Auckland who appears to have 100% of the right gear (including metal spray) so I'll send the parts to them instead of CHCH (unless @sentra tells me they're dicks) https://www.mpw.co.nz/about-us Quote
sentra Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Mpw are highly regarded, there’s another guy a stones throw from there (malcolm) maclean metal spray who does the same sort of work who would be the more cost effective option for weld/spray/machine/assemble stuff 1 Quote

sleeektoy Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 are good used parts not an option? https://www.farmtrader.co.nz/detail/jcb-3c-111-380286 1 Quote
Unclejake Posted November 28, 2023 Author Posted November 28, 2023 Thank you, but evidently there's no used 4x4 front hubs available in NZ. I did get offered one from the UK for NZ$3K plus freight and GST though. 1 Quote
