Popular Post 4AG_Addict
About a year ago this Honda Mini Trail turned up at a mates place with a couple of busted modern Chinese scooters. I expressed an interest in obtaining it & was able to collect it the other night. From what I can tell so far it's a 1970 or 1971 Z50AK2, last of the hard tails. Seems to be mostly complete, just missing front brake line & indicator lenses. Plans are restore the mechanicals, leave the aesthetics alone as much as possible and hopefully get it on the road. Seems to be a lot of repro parts available, anyone on here able to comment on quality? Or good source of stuff? Otherwise stay tuned for pictures of 6ft6 idiot attempting to ride ridiculous tiny bike. 10
GuyWithAviators
Good score! Lots of parts available, even genuine Honda if you find the right part numbers (via partzilla etc) and order from Webike.Jp genuine parts section. There’s also Aconohonda in Te Aroha, same thing with part numbers: https://www.anacondaltd.co.nz Aftermarket, quality is fine, definitely a lot better than the Chinese scooters of back in the day. Darren is our original aftermarket monkey / Honda part supplier: https://www.shore50s.co.nz/store/c1/Featured_Products.html and just recently mBike have come into the NZ market with mostly AliExpress spec Honda specific goods at decent prices. https://www.mbike.co.nz Hope this helps! Looking forward to updates / If you ever want to sell it let me know

4AG_Addict
Got a link? Everything I could find on NZTA only applies to New bikes 125cc and over.
tortron
Oh it's a 50. Carry on then if no history does it count as a "fresh import" i dunno From 1 April 2020 All new model new motorcycles over 125cc must have ABS. All new model new motorcycles up to and including 125cc must have ABS or CBS. From 1 November 2021 All current model new motorcycles and imported used motorcycles over 125cc must have ABS. All current model new motorcycles and imported used motorcycles up to and including 125cc must have ABS or CBS.

Raizer
Vin exempt vehicle, just go into AA/VTNZ and ask for an MR2B, fill it out and then chat about the weather etc acting confident like you get a new plate everyday. It 100% has been registered in NZ before 2011, you just don't know the old plate number If they say it needs an inspection point out that that is for anything imported after 2011 so doesn't apply, if they still want to fuck you about go to another AA/VTNZ. 6
4AG_Addict
Job for the night was to check out the fuel tank. Plenty of rust & crud, but no holes anywhere. Have a sealer kit on the way.
4AG_Addict
Successful day. Thanks to @BlownCorona and @Raizer for some advice after first attempt was a fail. Shame the lady couldn't read my scrawl and incorrectly typed 2 50 instead of Z 50, but I'll do the paperwork to get that changed. 7

It's the cheapest option for converting rust.
Raizer
Second the vinegar, countdown home brand do a big bottle cheap. Dunno about leaving it for a couple weeks, I've found after a day or 2 the vinegar seems to lose it's grunt so I change it for fresh, another day or 2 and it's ready to be flushed and neutralized with baking soda then sealed (bit of oil heavy 2t mix has worked for me in the past.)
xsinclairx
I used the home brand stuff too! I left mine for ages but changing out for fresh after a couple days makes sense. Don’t leave the fuel tap in with the vinegar in the tank
4AG_Addict
Sweet will give the Vinegar a shot. Gave the guards a bit of a tidy up last night, didn't really mind the look of the top side, but the bottom was scum. Before Shot
4AG_Addict
Masked them up and hit the underside with the sandblaster, then a couple of coats of Rustkill. Top side I tried out the Coke & Tinfoil. Worked way better than I was expecting to be honest.
