Popular Post anglia4 Posted December 11, 2019 Popular Post Posted December 11, 2019 I had way too much fun at Te Uruweras this year but I felt like the RGV150 was just too much bike. So this just happened... I swapped it for an FXR150 I had surplus. Its a 1973 GT50 powered by a TF100. Sporting the best of Aliexpress petrol tank and seat, it looks quite tidy. Theres a few things I want to tidy up on it. The upside down flat(ish) bars will be the first thing in the bin. I went down that road with my CB650 and won’t be doing it again. Most importantly it has a very healthy ring and solid ding so I’m happy. 15 Quote

Chris.QCR Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Rad ! If it is then its a ex QCR bike that was built by a old boy down here for the Smash Palace show before Horse got it then sold it to Geophy 1 Quote
anglia4 Posted December 11, 2019 Author Posted December 11, 2019 Can’t be many TF100 powered GT50’s around This one has had the kick start removed completely and a machined piece of ally pressed into the case by the looks. Quote
Mop Head Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 I think that was old mate Geophy that blanked off the kick The shaft was either completely stripped/not there when he got it. Rowdy bike! Looks much better these days. I reckon if you accidentally slipped an RGV150 motor in there the world would be a great place 1 1 Quote
TimShadboltfan27 Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 swoon!! man this popped up on my market place all the time, i had a daily internal struggle to resist buying it. that spanny tho, loooooooooong whistle 1 Quote
Geophy Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Yeah man thats my old one, am curious to what the dude I sold it to did to it. Yeah kick start was blanked when I got it is a good motor did chch to hokitika and back on it just the rest of the bime required a bit of attention frame wise. 2 1 Quote
anglia4 Posted December 11, 2019 Author Posted December 11, 2019 Yeah some of the frame welds from the engine install look like they could use a tidy up. It also looks like the engine position could do with being a little higher to get the chain line right. At the moment I think it drags across a nylon strip all the time. 1 Quote
anglia4 Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 What’s everyone doing for GPS speedos these days? Any good aliexpress items? Quote
HighLUX Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I havent seen any GPS speedos on ali that are "period' looking for such a bike but there are plenty that run off a sensor and magnets rigged to the front wheel Quote
anglia4 Posted January 23, 2020 Author Posted January 23, 2020 I rode the silver bullet to work today. Plenty of WTF's from my workmates, its rather loud China hooked me up with some nice new mirrors to reduce my chances of dying. I also mounted the number plate in an attempt to draw a little less attention than my previous effort. Tail light for night duties is still back-pack mounted though. I need to fit a reg/rect to get me some DC volts for the LED strip tail light that I'm hoping to hide away under the back of the seat. Hopefully I can do this with some of my mudbug spares. I'd really love a kick stand too, that will be on my to-do list at some stage. 6 1 Quote
anglia4 Posted March 13, 2020 Author Posted March 13, 2020 I’ve started doing a wee bit of prep for bush nangs in case I end up going lol. The more I look at this bike the more I find half arsed So today I added split pins and lock nuts to all the places that should have them, like the brake rod and chain adjusters which were only finger tight. The brake rod was nearly wound right off, it needed resetting on the spline. i had to add some extra spacer nuts to the chain adjusters for some reason. It’s within normal axle adjustment but at the limit of the threads... weird... I’ll call this 3/4 assed now I also added a bit of tire tube to keep water from the tire out of the carb. I also rotated the bars up to a normal position cos I’m a grumpy old man these days. 5 Quote
Popular Post anglia4 Posted April 10, 2020 Author Popular Post Posted April 10, 2020 A wee bit of progress has been made on this. Bucket Barry did some wiring to install the necessary guff to run a DC tail light and add an ignition key to the mix. The tail light I have is an LED one and the TS is 6V so the clever bugger pulled the light apart and took out something like every 5th LED to get it to work. He has prescribed the installation of a small 6V battery. So I’ve been making a wee battery box. Trying to make it look like it’s meant to be there, like it could be an oil tank. I still need to make some mounting tabs for it but I’m pretty stoked with how it’s looking. The hole is for the ignition key barrel. i also made a proper number plate mount. The lacking proper kick stand has caused a couple of accidents... I found it having a cuddle with my Ducati one day which was a pretty horrifying sight as the garage door went up... thankfully no damage to either bike except for one of my brand new mirrors on the GT being totally destroyed. The next accident it fell gently with the headlight against the workbench. The headlight was an aliexpress item and the plastic housing just exploded across the shop. Honestly if it had been more dramatic there would have been fire. Have got a new headlight for a TF125 from the wreckers. I didn’t buy this bike to be another project so I’m pretty keen to fuck it off out of my workshop! 10 Quote
anglia4 Posted July 14, 2020 Author Posted July 14, 2020 I've done a wee bit more tinkering this week. I finished off the wiring that Bucket Barry had started. Hunted around and found an old handlebar switch that I brought for another project, it is a cheap piece of shit and the push button doesn't work, so it had gone in the drawer. But the toggle will be perfect for high-low beam switching. Got the mud bug 6V headlight installed. The modified for 6V LED tail light is running down the side of the number plate so hopefully people won't run me over at night time. I think its reasonably discreet. I found an old mudguard in my boxes of hoarded shit that I'm going to try and fit to the front as well. My diet requires that I keep my gravel quantity below the ministry of health guidelines for recommended daily intake. 2 Quote
Popular Post anglia4 Posted July 14, 2020 Author Popular Post Posted July 14, 2020 I also commissioned a new clutch cable for it. Upon fitting it, I hunted through another box of hoarded shit and found a clutch arm cover as that was missing off this bike. Once I got it all together, it became apparent why... The clutch arm clamping bolt was fouling on the cover. I did a lot of head scratching, shifted the arm a spline, which made it hit on the other side... I was about to give up and come to the same conclusion as the previous builder when I had a bit of a revelation. I turned the arm up the other way, put it together, adjusted the cable, lick of paint on the cover and bobs your dads ex brother in law. 12 Quote
Geophy Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Cool to see this bike get done properly, FYI the muffler packing on that bike is super hi tech Goldilocks. From memory I got about 6 in there. 2 2 Quote
anglia4 Posted July 16, 2020 Author Posted July 16, 2020 Thanks for the confidence. Haha It does make a great noise. There are a few more things I really want to tidy up on it. Namely; the foot pegs are not quite evenly placed, the lack of kick stand still drives me fucking bonkers, and I'm going to see if the kick start assembly from one of my TF125 motors will fit it. Quote
HighLUX Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Im going with yes the mudbug kickstart will fit cause that 100 motor looks exactly the same as a 125/if it doesn’t just swap the whole motor into it Quote
