Daves new school holden shambles

Drag Day is coming up fresh wof acquired so thought I should do a stock take of what I have already bought and start thinking about what I still need to turbo this nugget.

Deka 850cc injectors supposedly a good starting point

AEM In tank fuel pump supposedly good for 1000hp with an10 lines

Pulsar 60mm wastegate have already got tube, bends and v bands for this

Pulsar GTX3584RS Turbo AN Lines and fittings acquired where possible fitted

Have some Greddy gauges from ages ago might be cool to use.

Needs:

Buick L67 long block that needs a rebuild with fucked heads, this supposedly was a good runner when I bought it clearly has been thrashed bores are scored to buggery. Do I throw rods and pistons at it and ARP studs and call it capable of whatever I can throw at it or just do a stock rebuild with new stock pistons supposedly very strong as is. Difference is like $5k in scheme of things.

The transmission hasn't been forgotten about either........ home-brew upgrades I reckon spoken to a specialist parts are cheap as but should wait till nz dollar improves.

I want to try run this on a stock ECU as the old delco is quite capable and it is a little bit clunky to tune but is well supported and give reasonable results. For what im wanting it's a good starting point if I decide I want 600hp at the wheels later I'll have to go aftermarket.

I just want to smoke a v8 or 2 occasionally with headroom for a max effort build later on.

Well last few things done boot is loaded with helmets tyres and tools heavy shit jettisoned for drag day aqua edition.

Remembered it has the stock Ecu so found my spare flashed a warm tune on to it and jammed it in, trans shifts a bit more snappy wound force motor up to 100% no sludgy smooth shifts tomorrow being positive it won't break anything. I'll  bring my AA card just in case.

Bloody stoked did 6 passes 4 pretty much back to back it didn't miss a beat and did rippa skids at drag day. I saw 160kph on the dash during a few of the skids and it jumped off the line surprisingly well mid 16 seconds pretty much all of the runs.

Did a somewhat performance oriented modification over weekend...... mainly because I have accumulated a stack of catalytic converters I wanted to cash in thought I might as well add 1 more to the pile.

Chopped out the Cat and replaced it with a Calsonic 2-1 muffler off a R35 GTR was a small amount of "3D printing" to hook it all up but it fits the space well and pleasantly doesn't sound shit and does rev a lot happier.

Why haven't I turbo'd this yet? Last year I bought myself a beautiful modern Mazda 3.

Since then I've driven the Mazda 4 times the commodore always gets picked for big trips as it's comfortable quiet and pretty frugal on gas, it's also got an epic stereo.

Mazda is on market soon to free up funds to hit the commodore with all the speed parts and fresh block with some goodies.

Side quest, can i fit a 275 under its ass?

I bloody love massive tyres so picked up these cheap to see what space there is seems enough if I roll the guards and maybe trim some plastic away.

I also got nails in both rear tyres going to the tip recently they have a few patches now so I doubt the tyre shop will touch them again.

Thanks for the info, first time i'd seen them. definitely keeping them now (one or both might sound good on a 2 litre gemini engine)

this is what i found (link so i don't spam your page with my photo)

One I have is a single oval jobby everything ive sat it on sounds amazing.

Keep the ones you have low use factory mufflers are top quality and generally perform well.

After some measuring and Googling ive discovered the 275's will fit under the bum but I will need some 10" rims.

I'm not keen to completely give the game away by fitting some stance spec wheels so have found bmw X5 wheels are 19x9 and 19x10 which maybe with a coat of gunmetal grey would blend in with the "it's not me doing skids everywhere" theme I'm going for with this car.

I could also go bigger on front too.... now to keep an eye out for some rims.

There was a holden parked up the road for ages with some wide wheels on it. I saw it get picked up by a wrecker tow truck a couple days ago. Had a flaking grey with red bumper on it. Have a look at thr Auckland wreckers Id say

(been replaced by an equally suspect matte black falcon)

Just had an online yarn about putting 275's on bmw x5 rims where turns out they'll fit the fronts as below nice and square...... maybe I find something wider for the back like a 295 and go full never slip again spec.

Rims I'll be going to are 9" front and 10" out back just got to find a set,  not uncommon but can be overpriced or trashed.
