M Night Shamalayan
those petrol adverts make some extreme claims, but im inclined to believe them. I might sue for damages.
Beaver
I've found that old cars don't like the Mobil fuel. One of my triumphs would hardly run on it, had to play with the timing to get it to run semi ok. All the gas was fine.
kyteler
Are you getting spark at the coil?
M Night Shamalayan
how do i check that without killing myself? all the books i have tell me how to pull it apart, but give no explanation on how to actually diagnose shit haha. kyteler
Check for spark at the spark-plug end first would be the go. Take out one of the plugs, attach the lead back onto it and earth it against something and then wind it over, if you can see spark then the coil is OK or at least working in some capacity. M Night Shamalayan
nyah-ha! there is absolutely no spark at the plug, that i can see. i earthed it against the engine, which i presume should be a reasonable ground point?

Yes, that is a good ground.
Nominal
Have you got a multimeter to check that there is 12V at the coil? Also, remove the distributor cap (usually held down by a couple of clips) and check that the points are opening and closing as the engine cranks.
