J-W-G
So time has come for me to splash out on fuelling for the escort. Im thinking of using a either a bosch 044 or a Walbro 255. Whats the general consensus of these pumps in regard to flow and noise? The set up im thinking of using is TANK------>LIFT PUMP------>SURGE TANK------>EFI PUMP----->FUEL RAIL----->FUEL PRESSURE REG----->RETURN LINE. Is it better to run the return line to the tank or the surge tank? Cheers
peteretep
what motor are you using? you should just go tank>high pressure pump>fuel rail>reg>tank at least at first IMO. I am running this setup now, I have been around hamptons without issue down to about 1/4 tank. Escort sedans have a reasonable tank as standard due to being vertical
bigmatt4
044s are an awesome pump but noisy as shit especially hot. intank pumps are they way to go way quieter and cheeper unless you are chasing power 350kw plus
J-W-G
I have a FE3 2.0L and im running a capri tank behind the rear seat. For me to run an intank pump i would have to modify the capri tank abit which i really dont want to do
nobangmycar
FE3 in an Escort? Shit yeah!
ta63-1uzze
chuck the 044 in the tank . that will make it allot quitter, and the fuel is great to help cool the pump down which makes it last longer too . so all round best solution is for the pump to be in the tank. peteretep
plenty of people have mounted an intank pump into the fuel sender unit, so they arent actually welding the fuel tank I would not recommend welding or even modifying the fuel tank based on previous experience
J-W-G
With it being intank i wouldnt need the lift pump or surge tank right? Then just run the return to the tank?
peteretep
thats right, but you should really have a baffle system around the pump, especially as your capri tank is so prone to losing fuel because it is mounted sideways in the car
J-W-G
Righto will look at what mods i can do to the sender. Are capri tanks really that bad?
kpr
most carb tanks are bad for efi, most don't have any baffles, since not relying on constant pressure and carb bowl acts as mini surge tank . agree about not needing to go surge tank . a good baffle setup will do pretty well. unless you want to use every last drop of fuel at race speeds, then go surge tank
mjrstar
If looking at sub 250 wheel KW I would go for the 255 Walbro over the 044.
Rookie
China 044 is the OS fuel pump of choice.
Bangbug
If you don't mind a surge tank, run that option. You'll have piece of mind that you're not going to run her dry around the sweeper at hamptons. And with an FE3 you know you'll want a turbo sometime (like me). My 2 cents reckons it's easier to set up a surge than a baffle/s.
Testament
easier to put more petrol in than baffles

Rookie
China 044 is no problems, mine doesn't get hot, flows heaps, and isn't too noisy, most importantly it is $40 to your door hahah

I should get one for my turbo FG falcon running 20 psi boost. (Note use of comic sans font to articulate sarcasm)
