braden
thanks man wouldn't let me upload.yeah have hydraulic lifters cranked over quite a bit with spark plugs out
braden
is that the right cam timing its set at 9 o clock with the number one piston at tdc
kyteler
I don't know what motor you have but this is 4G something, it shows the basics.
Spencer
How about looking under the rocker cover and finding TDC via the spark plug hole and go from there.
kyteler
You can just google whatever motor you have then add "timing setup" so, "4G54 Timing Setup" or "4G63 Timing Setup", etc. .. regardless, there should be corresponding marks on pulleys and head/block. Spencer
yea easy to have two marks on sohc stuff and get it wrong. Actually checking where things are is super easy.
eke_zetec_RWD
I mean a photo of the rockers on the front cylinder when it's on tdc. Not the pulley. A nice clear photo. You will need to remove the rocker cover.
Mof
yeah the first 2 valves are on rock.but rotate it 360 and there still on rock.how to I change this You turned the crankshaft 360° not camshaft right?
peteretep
what on earth is going on, you need to post some better pics or a video of what is happening.
braden
yeah turned the crankshaft 360.how to you know if on the right stroke though
eke_zetec_RWD
If it's on tdc and the valves are closed on number 1 then it's at the top of the compression stroke. This means the rotor in the dizzy will be pointing at the number one ignition lead. But honestly we need some better pics to confirm you have it right. If you have no clue then stop playing with it because if you fuck this up there is a chance you can bend some valves and mark Pistons. braden
yeah man allgood yeah that's where it was set.got a guy coming to have a look at though
Ranter
Check crank sprocket tdc mark against mark on crank pulley and outside plastic cover. Since you use a tin plate between the sprockets with the tdc mark on it it can be fitted back to front, it won't hurt anything (valves/Pistons) unless you've modified the engine internally. Note that the picture above seems to be for a fwd engine, things do get swapped over the years but it shows you what you need to know. The cam timing mark will be on the other side of the head on an original Starion engine.
ajg193
You didn't put the rings in upside down?
braden
yeah checked the timing was allgood the 1st 2 valves are on rock at tdc.I think might have bent valves maybe but its the same compression on all cylinders like 40psi.and I should hope the rings were fitted right as I didn't build motor brought it like that
Spencer
I'm still not sure you have the timing right, but if you do start pulling it apart.
braden
had a mechanic come check it and was right cranks on tdc and cams on the mark with 1st 2 valves on rocking
Spencer
OK well if TDC was properly confirmed and valves are in the right place it might be time to pull it down. Fresh rings should pump more than 40psi IMO. Unless you have a morry I guess then that's probably good.
braden
yeah I might do a leak down test before pull it down say it will be valves but I don't understand why they would be bent when motor hasn't even been started since rebuild
eke_zetec_RWD
You have done the valve clearences I take it? Also is your gauge know as accurate?
