maxted
Just wondering if anyone on here have run a w55-58 behind a rotary, i have got a w56 and a s4/5 rx7 bellhousing, ive just brought an adaptor too suit, wanting to know what set-up you need to use clutch wise, do you use all rx7 stuff except a supra splined clutch disc? Any help is much appreciated
sr1600
Have the same setup but with a w57 Use the flywheel/clutch size that your bellhousing is suited too so 8.5 if rx3/oldschool bellhousing and 9.5 if a turbo one, with a supra splined disc of the matching size. Have heard the spline length can be an issue but I brought mine as a kit so didnt have an issue. Can anyone confirm the thrust bearing surface has to be shortened slighty?(otherwise the kit comes with a bush to suit)
maxted
sr1600- cheers for the info, do you also run rx slave cylinder and fork? nzed- I had heard this also regarding rubbish ratios and the selector forks being a weak point, but i got the box really cheap and will just replace with a w57/8 if i have problems down the track, but at the moment it will do to make mounts and get through certification, its only going to have a standard 12a to start with so won't be getting a rough time. cheers for the help
sr1600
Clutch slave cylinder bolts to the motor , try and run the matching master to keep the stroke ratio the same. The clutche ive had done a autoclutch come back with a warning stroke should not exceed 10mm at the slave (may be because I had a billet pp)
maxted
sweet so should run matching slave and master to suit series 4/
Rookie
You should sell it and use an RX8 box.
Rookie
I was serious but if you think a worn out 25 year old box is the answer then be my guest. You will have to put up with unreliability and shitty ratios, the joke will be on you.
Mitch.W
those j160's are sweet. as long as you don't limiter dump everywhere and don't run a stupid clutch like a 4puk or something everything will be fine. Looking back i should have used one on my cressida with a 1ggte. Same raitos as a w55 but 1 more gear. 4.11 final drive for both of them. Evan
RX8's don't have a speedo drive in the gearbox, they get their speedo reading off the ABS sensors on the wheels. looked into it awhile ago, would have to fiddle with things/make something up to make the speedo work.
Evan
A j160 rx8 6 speed will be fine behind a 12a. Its the speedo drive that'll make it not worth pissing around with.
Spencer
Yea the gear-set size is comparable to a W series.

maxted
main reason for going with w series box is I picked up the w56 for cheap and already had the bell housing and found an adaptor for $100, even tho the ratios aren't flash i can swap it out for a w57/8 at a later date, saves changing the whole set-up from s1-3 later on, and my little bro wants the s1 box for his escort his one is knackered yeah its only a standard 12a at this stage
