Spencer
It helps with milage, hopefully your dizzy has adjustable advance so you can set it up nicely. You should try chuck it on a ported vacuum spot on the carb (google this)
escortwags
EDIT definitely not a vacuum leak, car dies when rag put over carb then comes back to idle, only thing Iv'e changed to get it idling is a tweak on the floats and pulled all the wires off the dizzy then put them back on
Spencer
Technically yes but in my book only if quickly re-using a old gasket and you have nothing else.
abrax
just a thought are u using those rubber front and rear arch seals under inlet manifold if so they could b causing a vacuum leak between inlet gaskets and inlet ports especially if heads have been skimmed .try removing those arch /bridge seals and replace them with a thick bead of good quality rtv sealer and see that it compresses when refitting manifold .allow adequate time for drying /curing before starting motor . escortwags
gar its being such a c*nt its decided it runs mint now. To late to start it again as neighbours don't like loud noises. Will hook up the vac advance tomorrow and see if that makes it a happier chappy. Failing that will try find a bargain priced dizzy at kumeu and just swap it out there
yetchh
- running a china 65,000 Volt HEI thing, that looks/is brand new Well there's your problem.. its well documented like everyone else has said that procomp is total rubbish.. I agree with cletus that it sounds rich, could be a weak spark from that ignition fouling your plugs and causing probs
escortwags
yuh thats what I'm thinking!! it's way to temperamental and weird . I think it just likes attention. Will get a new one at Kumeu and chuck it in while I'm there and see what happens

Spencer
Yea it may not solve your problems but I would be happier having that brand name dizzy in there on long trips, seems like good buying with the spares. I would be aiming to get a wideband on it and get it fueling spot on.
KKtrips
That's cheap as too.
escortwags
yeh the spares make me want it more (module alone is worth $$$) buuuuuut might just wait for Kumeu to see if there are any deals to be had. Is she just a bolt it out of the box jobby or would I have to change all the advance weights and springs etc,?
Spencer
Will probably be OK out of the box but reasonably conservative, like any performance engine and mechanical dizzy you should check its full advance range and at what RPM the advance is coming 'all in'. Should also adjust the vacuum advance to be optimum for your setup.
escortwags
Am waiting for a call from Magnum as they are going to dyno/tune it when a free spot comes up. But just want the thing reliably drivable so I can atleast get there and zoom around when I want. Man I really need to buy a timing light

Is she just a bolt it out of the box jobby or would I have to change all the advance weights and springs etc,? Yeah it will run out of the box NO worries. Trust me man if that is genuine MSD then that is CHEAP and being brand new then you definitely need to buy. Just check the interwebs with ID'ing counterfeit MSD gear - I think hotrod.com have some info around that. They copy them pretty faithfully sometimes.
escortwags
good thinking shall get my google on now. The spares look genuine so hopefully the Dizzy works out to be as well. F**k it if it's real deal Ill just buy the bastard. Interwebs is failing me, it just goes on and on about the 6AL units nothing about HEI
cletus
i like msd stuff. have never had a problem with it. when i first got my VG going it was so uber rich there was black soot all over the floor like when you have a acetylene torch going. it never fouled the plugs even running like that at my old workshop we did a bit of work on a dirt track car and we put one of those msd hei units in it, went well
escortwags
Have purchased ya bastards. Will update this thread hopefully Thursday night with te outcome Anyone in the market for a sweet china HEI? Haha
capone
Just a couple of things to check. Make sure coil is not going through a ballast resistor and that it has good 12v. Can get really weird timing issues when not getting a full 12v. Also check that the floats don't have a tiny hole causing them to sink. Rake them out and make sure they don't have fuel inside. I had a sinking float and that was an ass to sort out
