CUL8R
No updates for awhile, mainly because I forgot, that and I've been busy with everything else; Cut out and welded all the outriggers; Finished the rear bar off; Good mate John machined 4x Sets of stub axles to accept the 21mm Kingpins; Made the mounts for the wheel gates; And put the gussets in the rear of the chassis; Cut & welded the plate on for the front bar as well; Have also soldered up the ECU breakout loom - will leave the actual wiring for a sparky though. And after months of searching, finally found a steering box, complete with input shaft and pitman arm - all for roughly 1/4 of what I'd been quoted for one
CUL8R
Rear layback and cross braces notched and tacked in along with front gussets and lateral bars (headplate and front hoop). Couldn't resist sitting the body on even though its not cut properly - sitting up at the front Started chopping body to get it sitting right still got the rear to go.. Onto shoulder plates next. Under rider and over rider bars welded on - thanks Colin for Bending them up, I borrowed his bonnet for a sneaky pic too..
CUL8R
Been plodding away at this after work and weekends when time allows.. Bent up the Shoulder plate bars, and plasma cut the 3mm plate out.. Did a small pick a part mission, got a wee suzuki alternator, swapped the pulleys over from the AU serpentine - all it needed was a small shim behind the pulley to get the right clearance, same OD/ID - and 1/4 of the size & weight! Also made this tensioner up from a EFI EB Falcon, had to make some bosses up to get the belts lining up. AU Serpentine pulley swapped over with a small shim behind as well! Sat the topolino Bonnet off the old car onto this, was a little wide, had some old holes and the scoop was on the turps, just wouldn't do.. So with some help from a school friend from years ago, I got to learn some fibreglassing - I also trimmed the body to tuck behind the rear overrider bar - rather not have the back end mangled up Eagle eyed among you may notice front bumper is on, along with "radiator hoop", supports, plate, and corner supports for the bumper. Got a fair bit more done today, but forgot to take pics/ran out of gas too.
CUL8R
Sweet Howe steering column Mount I picked up from Summit.. Got the front and rear wheels on.. Accelerator Pedal mounted - AU Falcon pedal, Suzuki swift cable. Exhaust MKII Forklift radiator, dowels through the bottom, and insulated with sway bar link Nolathanes up top R32 Skyline 4pot. Being locked diff the single 4 pot will suffice, if its too much then I can drop back to a 2pot using the same mounts.. Re-made seat brace, mounts and should seatbelt mounts. Driveshaft Loop Driveshaft Cover 3mm Plate Wilwood Reverse mount pedal Box. Before someone jumps in and informs me I cant use it. The Balance bar will be removed - and Im only running the single master cylinder for the brakes, clutch will still be utilised. - So it meets the rules as brake bias isn't allowed to be adjustible. Sat the Jig on the ground, tyres are just touching now, sat all the arms in place - but not bolted up tight
CUL8R
Small update, Went over to the coast to take part in the Bathurst enduro - was a lot of fun, think we may've even been leading it at one point too. But like a few cars ended up cooking it quite severely, however cooled it down and nursed it back into life to get out our 4th driver over the line and finished after a rather long break. At a guess managing some 70-80 laps in my stint? (just over half hours worth of driving) - Shoulder was feeling rather stiff lol! Made some shock mounts, tacked them on.. Made the steering arm up.. Made a mount for the steering box and welded it in Notched the top rail for the inlet manifold (40x40 inside, with 3mm plate underneath, lap & seam welded, then plug welded through the top) 3mm plate over top of the rail lap and plug welded - Should be strong enough.. Connected up the steering shaft with universals.. Forgot to take photo's but Ive finished the Torque arm mount for the diff, and have made the chassis mount for the Panhard rod, need to make the mounts on the diff yet.. Will also need to redo the pedals as there wasn't enough room for the left knee.. Thinking long pedals pretty much hanging from the dash area?
CUL8R
Loosely copied the jig for the stub axles and welded the stubs up. Traced around the mounts so if these all work out properly will be able to cnc 4 more sets to weld up.. Traction Rod Done - Note its bolted in so that the middle mount can be used - otherwise you'd never be able to unbolt the heim joint Panhard mount tacked in, friend kindly spun up a threaded sleeve with a large OD so it should be nice and strong.. Brakes in theory should be done, used stainless line - was painful to flare compared to normal bundy tube.. Just needs fluid and pads in theory. Craig from Proparts sorted me out some adapters plus braided lines along with the various dash fittings Redid the pedals, Brake shown here.. Clutch and remote reservoirs shown here.. Mirrors mark II, original ones from TWL were complete and utter rubbish - one stripped the first time I went to fit to the car. These are from the woodford glen shop, cheaper, and better field of vision, easier to mount too! Just onto doing the seat belt mounts etc at the moment, getting very very close indeed!
CUL8R
Still about, closer every week. However the end of the season is fast approaching... Fuel Tank in and mounted (have since added braided overflow line) Good mate of mine Dan popped a dash out of his mould for me.. Had to re-notch the top rail. Swap the Bowls over on the carb to a Holley one. Also will run the throttle linkage on the left (leaving accelerator pump on the right however). Blaine C/O Fast Blast also cleaned up my manifold, I went through and put stainless bolts throughout. He also cleaned up my seat and had it powdercoated poor mans Chrome (black lol) Couldn't resist sitting my K&N Filters ontop with the offset base.. Another friend (coincidentally named Dan) spent a few nights and half a day wiring up the car for me. Did a top notch job, I was well chuffed with his efforts, looks very neat and tidy. Fuel Pump and lines are mounted, along with clips for brake lines etc. Body & Bonnet are properly mounted too now Perhaps my favourite shot of the car.. Driveshaft currently away being made. Front & rear Crush rails as of today are completed. Diff has been fully welded and painted, shimmed up. Motor is out, will seal and replace water pump etc. No plans or allocated funs for a full on race motor just yet. I do have a Cam & Race springs but some people reckon its best to leave them as is whilst the rest is stock?

CUL8R
Thanks Lads, lots of jobs to do yet; I've got to sand, bog & primer the body in preparation for who ever will be painting it. Motor in, every fluid throughout the car. Make up the Oil pressure sender braided line. Sign writing Put it on the scales & set it up, from there can fully weld the shock mounts on (no point in having them fully welded if they dont allow enough adjustment either way) Bolt flywheel & clutch on. Those are the bigger jobs, plenty of small ones..
CUL8R
Just got back into tinkering away again. Friend came over and setup the hydraulic throwout for me (shimming it up) I bolted/torqued up the new lightweight flywheel, 5puk clutch and heavy duty pressure plate.. Switched the rear caliper over (I had the Nissan 4 pot "right" on the left, thus bleed nipple at the bottom rather than top), shimmed alternator to line up nicer as well. Should give an indication on just how short the driveshaft is.. Bolted up the head supports, with extra padding..

cletus
i knew these things were built like brick shithouses, but good lordy- such a lot of work to do one from scratch, the welding must have taken aaaaages
CUL8R
To give you a small idea, the front and rear bumpers, siderails I did in one weekend. Calculated to over 50m. I swear the welding torch felt like it weighed 20kg by the end of it. Went from doing 2m beads of weld to 2" before it was tiring on the sunday at the end of the day lol! I think Im roughly into the 3rd Spool of Wire now (we have been doing other jobs as well in saying that though)

CUL8R
Should make for easier to change in the event of a broken hub etc - I have 3 other sets of hubs all milled - however havent made the steering arm brackets yet.. Want to make sure steering is fine before I commit to changing them all lol
brocky41
Mate awesome work - like the fact your actually thinking about spares etc and getting them underway / ready at hand. This is definitely not a slap together stockcar build like most ive seen are. Your attention to detail is spot on - especially when its gonna get rolled bowled and a**holed lol. Finished for this season?? i might have to come and watch
CUL8R
Would like to think so Brock, got a couple other things on my plate but the intention is definitely there. Car is only a 5-10min drive from yours currently. Should be able to fire it up within the next few weeks - Off to LA for 9 days so that'll slow me down.
