savageoutlaw Posted September 23, 2012 Share Posted September 23, 2012 Cruising around yesterday, and after about 70kms, there was a mysterious clicking noise coming from the right hand side under the bonnet. Coming from either: -Carbs?-Extractors?-Anything around this area of the car?? Speed of ticking would increase while accelerating, but there was a certain time when it wouldn't click. Going around 80kmp/h it would hush.. A15 Datsun Engine. Twin SU style carbs. New custom made extractors... Recently oiled them, and still needing to find air filters so anyone with some 1 1/4" ram flows or similar wanting to sell would be nice too Should I be concerned or not? felixx Posted September 23, 2012 Share Posted September 23, 2012 Andrew when you are car, your carbs are on the LH side, i take it you were not under your bonnet at 70-80km/h. Was it loud? Jase Posted September 23, 2012 Share Posted September 23, 2012 this^ plus timing chain tensioner on a 1256 was so lols, would rattle click etc when cold, machine gun rattle under load but not knock, then knock just off idle pulling away from lights. timing chain on an a15 is probably as simple as it gets, go buy a haynes manual and have a read up, it'll even list the tools you will require, and then it'll direct you step by step through the whole process to replace the parts, also could well be a loose tappet! Lifted up the front carburettor where the air goes in and the "clicking" instantly stops.. (car still goes and slowly starts to die) does this mean it is a carb issue?
