Panelbeating for an Escort

Block of wood on that corner and a sledgie will sort that, do the same behind the grille.

You'll have it straight in no time, use lots of heat and get behind with a decent wide head hammer.

It is an escort, lets be honest, they have all had more hits than the beatles, unstiching that guard and refitting what will be a pattern panel will be 1majillion times harder than repairing what you got, speaking from experience, good luck.

Fix your indicator so it doesn't have a broken lens, make sure your headlight is aligned correctly and that there are no sharp edges or protrusions from the body and you should be OK

May pay to check wheel alignment too if it looks like it may have been tweaked.

I'd try fix it before you have to spend money on a new guard.

You dont "unweld" it. You'd have to drill all the spotwelds holding it on. And there are a lot of them.

If you welded on another one You could run into issues of another guard not wanting to line up with your door line easily, you'll still have to unstitch the old one, weld on the new and then paint it so its not an "easy option"

How much bog is already in your car? It looks like its good steel.

If you removed the grill, headlight, headlight bucket and cut out the inner panel between where the headlight bucket sits and and the very front of your guard you'd have plenty of room to tap it out

Had same thing in same place in my Mk2 Escort about a year ago.

I tried to find another guard and mine didnt look as bad as your damage,

Judging by the photos id say it would be a good idea for you too.

it would have to be removed anyway to be repaired and they almost never look "quite right" when rebeatin.

i removed guard and it was reasonably simple. Drilled holes thru the spot welds there was about 7, then chiseled the weld/slag free and removed.

I had more of a time getting the damn dome top bolts off to remove the full chrome bumper than the guard haha .

Brought new gaurd for i think $100 and $45 for it to be welded on straight by raycoft down here.

Had colour match for bout $75 i think mate from friendly panel beater .

+ pinstripe .
