The male was hit as he crossed Coutts St about 11.15am. Witnesses say he appeared to step out on the road without looking and was hit by a bus. He was reportedly hit in view of hundreds of Rongotai College. The teen had been taken to Wellington Hospital with head and chest injuries and was in a critical condition. Coutts St resident Nicola Campbell said her cousin saw the accident, which involved the Airport Flyer bus. Ms Campbell rushed outside and saw the man crouched on his knees with his head on the ground. He was conscious but in considerable pain. ''The guy was just crossing the street on a corner. You can't really see much of the traffic coming. I think he just didn't see the bus and stepped out in front of it. ''He's seriously injured. He had quite a lot of bruising on his ribs and was in quite a lot of pain.'' Ms Campbell said the area was 50kmh speed zone but traffic often sped as it was an alternative route to the airport.
