Mk1 Cortina engine swap

Few questions, I have got a 1600 x-flow from a Mk2 Cortina for my Mk1 and I want to run the colum change box still.

Will this need to be cert'd? Its pretty much a bolt for bolt swap over, but obviously the engine capacity is a teeny bit larger.

Also, has anyone on here put a Cosworth into a Mk1?

If this is who Im thinking of your wof man is really good and even if he wasnt he wouldnt ask for cert for a 1600. He probly wont even ask for one when you get that cossy in there. Silver would be a nice colour and the gissy boys do awesome awesome panel work.

But generally if it's bolt in you should be able to get through a wof with no cert.

Sure If I bolt a 3SGTE into my 1S-U powered Corona they going to notice but somehow I don't thing this conversion would be of that caliber.

Just do it, take for a wof. Act like nothings changed and you should get through.

You should be sweet because you can have a 20% engine increase or something. So going from a 1500 to a 1600 equals no cert. but if your mk1 was originally a 1200 then you will need a cert, i needed one when mine was done from a 1200 to 1600xflow!!

there bugger all outside differences though isnt there?? , like block is an inch higher or somthing? .

i get a wof in my car and its got a ca18de instead of the single cam one , they dont even bat an eye at it haha

Um no. Not last time I looked. Any swap that involves increase in cc requires a cert afaia.

I agree that it's fairly stupid that a bolt in motor that's not really significantly more powerful or heaver etc needs a cert. But unless some of the pointless red-tape regarding such basic car modifications has been removed lately, that's the rules.

Having said that, as several people have noted whilst not legal it will probably never be detected by any WOF people too young to know Mk1 Cortinas were never fitted with the x-flow (as long as the exhaust is done neatly as it will be on the opposite side to original).

Have been told by a mechanic who is older than a Mk1 that he'd give it a wof, as long as the mounts arent changed, its all sweet.

With the carb on the other side now I dont even need to change the fuel line.

Watch this space, will put some progress photos up soon, guna have it painted like the silver one that shows up in pics on here
