CUL8R
Who in Chch would you fella's recommend to tune my car, 2x 36drla's.. Not after huge power, but better economy & reliability.. Most people I've talked to say to go for a place with a rolling road dyno?
Mr.Mk1
Harman motors on colombo have an extensive track record at blowing cars to bits on the dyno. NZEFI could be a go too.

CUL8R
Hate Stating the obvious, but NZEFI - as the name says, wouldnt they be mainly into EFI cars, not Carby?
RUNAMUCK
Yeah, I did a max power run in my datto on nzefi's dyno. (I was piggybacking on a silvia club dyno day) The guy wrinkled his nose and made some remark about how they don't like carburated engines around here. Prolly cos they don't understand how they work, or how to tune them. "Ummm, where do I plug in my usb cable?"
Ke36
yea havent seen any carby cars when ive been in at nzefi plus its guna be a hella expensive way to tune ur car
SRacin
NZEFi would be a good choice for running the dyno, but yea youd either want to know how to sort the carbs yourself, or get a carb expert to do the acutal "tuning". PAD Racing also have a hub dyno, dunno what they are like with carbs.
84_S12
Go see someone like Bruce Moore who has been looking after peoples cars since ages ago, does lots of classics etc
RT
yeah.. after going to NZEFi recently I can't say I was that impressed to be honest. First of all they won't take anyone on who doesn't have a PC mappable computer so my LINK V3 was out and I was told I had to upgrade the chip to a V4 if I wanted to go on their dyno.. The dude who actually does the tuning sure knows his stuff and does a thorougher job I'll say that. But I got the feeling that nobody else there knew what the fuck they were talking about. I took my car in at 8:30 and they made me sit for an hour while they fucked around. Eventually a dude came in and said he couldn't start my car.. cos it was in drive! Didn't put my car on until 9:30.. then another dude told me I was only making 120hp at the rear wheels which I thought was fuckin BS. Then 10mins later he came back and apologized saying they'd connected up the dyno incorrectly.. it was making 237rwhp. Then he tried too hard to talk me out of running a V4 chip cos he thinks it might only have 3 rows of vacume and 3 rows for boost..trying HARD to upsell me to the latest V5 chip. I said I wasn't interested so he then tells me he'd checked the V4 and it could indeed have 6 rows for vacume if you weren't boosted. And they claim to be the LINK specialists... ffs Spent 2.5 hours on the dyno and it cost me $420. I had to sit on my ass watching my car through a window reading shit performance car magazines from 8:30am to 12:00. I'm used to being more involved in the process to be honest. It doesn't seem like the place for me.
Ke36
unfortunately the guy who usually deals with the customers is a bit hes all money money money same story from everyone that goes there i wont name him but if youve been there youl know who it is the rest of the guys are good guys though i assume phil did your tune? RT
yeah Phil is all good but the rest of them are pretty questionable.
ke25_
For tuning carbs i would recomend sumner marine, they are on the main street, they tuned my mates a14 with dellortos and shit did it go good after, no dyno but they have years and years experience with dellortos and fiat race cars. i would never take my car to NZEFI, they used to be car alarm installers then one day they thought shit lets buy a dyno and some links. iv herd good things about the place in sockburn and also re sinclair for dyno tuning, my mate had his 180sx dyno tuned by re sinclair last week for $160, his ca18det was running lean, the problem was fixed and made 150rwhp at 5psi (fully rebuilt bigger turbo otherwise dead standard and auto). I have a highly modified uprighted 4k with twin dellortos and when i can afford it, it will be getting tuned my sumner marine, they have genuine interest in old school cars and was very helpfull when i took my car there for advice, the guy ended up fiddling and chatting for a good 30min. . . for free. ke25_
yep sure am, I flat with her now aswell. sold my ke25 and wheels for more than what i paid for the whole car in the last week or so (even though its in the impound) picked up possibly one of the best original condition starlets in nz off trademe yest so will drop the $12'000 4k i got out of the ke25 into it while i got no licence. . . as the ke25 handled like a boat. Ill be getting my car tuned by sumner marine as soon as i get licence back and it on the road! SRacin
they used to be car alarm installers then one day they thought shit lets buy a dyno and some links. umm not trying to rock the boat or, make and judgements or anything, but thats not entirely true. Elton, was car security solutions (i think) and had his own premises, pre nzefi. NZEFi was formed with a different group of people, and they shared the same premises to begin with. Two of the people who we founders, have Bachelor Degrees in Electrical Engineer from Canterbury Uni, and worked for Link as Electrical engineer / designers, one was doing did his masters sponsered by Link. They had a deal for dyno use pre buying their own dyno as demand required.... Sorry to polute the tread. The sumner marine sounds awesome, have to take my starlet there. I meet the dude that brought your 25, he wants to buy some bits of me.. Cheers
ke25_
fair enough, was just passing on what I herd from a reliable scource who is well respected in the industry. I have only herd negative things from people who have had experience with NZEFI. But as far as tuning carbs go sumner marine is were I would go but there not cheap. . my mates a14 was running like shit when it went in there and it cost him $500 to get tuned but I honestly couldn't believe the difference after. . johnny? well he is "buying" my ke25 its nearly paid for but unfortunately it won't change hands till its out of the impound on 7th feb lol. . Whats sort of starlet you got? sidedrafts?
