  1. Been staring at this in the shed for way too long so thinking about thinking about working on it. Question is, can I be bothered with the old 18rgeu? I have another 4age blacktop under the bench I am sure would suit really well, easy to wire and good EFI. Thoughts 18rgeu vs blacktop? All I would need for the blacktop would be a w55 to 4age bell-housing i think, plus would have to make a sump and mounts etc etc.
  2. More assembly stuff done. Front screen back in, PITA of a job, especially putting the chrome strips back in. Saw some re manufactured seals from Thailand on ebay, so have to wait for the rear window to seal to arrive. Interior is mostly there now. The headlining I made turned out really well, just need to tweek the tension a bit more to get ride of some wrinkles. Made all the pillar pieces. Not sure what I am going to do about recovering the sun visors tho, as they factory method is some sort of heat sealed edge. That and I forgot to mark the holes for the screws for them so will need to do some braille to get them in the correct spot.
  3. Bit more assembly and underlay making. PITA cutting the underlay bit for the tunnel. Will cut transmission hole after welding up the old side exit shifter position and getting some sort of boot. Put all the chrome work on the back end.
  4. Bit of interior reassembly. Putting new carpet in makes such a huge difference.

  6. Thought here would be a good place to start about my KP61 which I have had for about 15 years. I am not sure how much longer my road with this project will be but for now here is the summary of where its at. Lots of cool stuff done to it over the years and lots of lessons. I starlet writing this as a for sale add (which ultimately it will be) but then realized it would be cool to capture somewhere the work that has gone into this little beastie. Hope this is appropriate. Discuss
  7. It had a severe case of cancer and was beyond hope, it really surprised me how a car with around 130 thou had rotted so badly.
  8. I did a manual conversion in one years ago and found one that suits at a van wreckers from some random hiace or liteace van. required the back flange swapped so could change centre bearings and was good to go.
  9. haha. yes it has been some time. I think it may be a few more years, but at least giving it a good push at the moment. Last drive was a blat around the block with the 18rg back in 2002 I think.
  10. So starting doing some piecing back together. Got all the side glass and trim on. Put new glass channel seals in and replaced the front door seals with rare spares items. This has lead to a drama of realigning the doors to no avail. I think the factory seals change profile a few times along them, Cleaned up the door cards. Cleaning vinyl is a bitch. Found from some other american forum that simple green concentrate is the biz and it certainly seams to be. Also found good old carb cleaner is a miracle cleaning also for some of the gooey stains. Taped up all the holes. Undecided about what to do about the seats as the top of the back seat is split, but the rest is good.
  11. in 2002 when i did the 18rg conversion, the 18rg was still kinda cool, but it sure is a big donk. A blacktop would probably make more power too.

  13. A photo end of last year before getting screwed by panel beater / painter as it emerged from the barn.
  14. Hi All, The short story, Brought a corona 14 years ago off the 2nd owner to save it from being changed into chicken coop, however the rego was on hold. Got the old girl up and running and used it as a daily for a year or two while at uni. Ending up buying a GT ra63 celica, so a rebuild began with the 18rgeu. I replaced all the suspension, ball joints etc, new springs shocks, reset leafs with extra leaf, bushes etc etc. Painted the engine bay. Then brought a race car and road cars went on the back burner. For a long time had it stored in a barn for years and years, and the storage arrangement came to an end so had to do something with it. Found a panel beater that was going to do it in his own time end of 2013. Unfortunately this all turned to custard as he was evicted from his premises for not paying bills and generally was totally full of shit. The building owner used to be a panel beater and offered to put a quick lick of paint on it such that it was at least all one colour and protected from the elements. And here it sits. 15. Yes in a way, as they are have a say in the issuing of permits to run an event. Plus CCC owns the land ruapuna is built on. On saturday there is a Canterbury Car Club Speed event @ ruapuna. Its a dual car sprint format in the morning, and our car clubs annual drags in the afternoon. No gate entry fee and the permit has recently been updated to allow some demonstration runs for a 7s funny car. If your interested in entering its around 50 bucks. But are a few things that need to be done in order to race such as club memembership and license. Cheers
  16. With all the cluthc plates in the LSD the splines are slightly shorted, otherwise the ends smash into the guts. When you buy a TRD diff it comes with jap instructions about how much to shorten them by. its only like 3 or 4mm. I knocked the end of mine with a 1mm cutting disc on an angle grinder. It only needs a slither.
  17. Also there is no real interchangability with them. 2 basic fitments Early & Late. Late, i.e big axles, is interchangable with st165 GT4 rear diff Early,i.e. smaller (and most common) is same as te71/te27 and a few others,
  18. very typically of a factory 2 pinion LSD. Go the 2way TRD LSD. You wont regret it. Strong aswell.
  19. thanks for the heads up, it needs abit of pulling here and there so need someone with all the tools to do it. I will get in touch with these people, keep the suggestions coming Cheers
  20. Any recommendations for a full restoration job? I've got a 71 GT celica which needs a full panel job the oldschool way, and looking for someone who can take their time on it (and also store it for abit). Cheers
  21. umm not trying to rock the boat or, make and judgements or anything, but thats not entirely true. Elton, was car security solutions (i think) and had his own premises, pre nzefi. NZEFi was formed with a different group of people, and they shared the same premises to begin with. Two of the people who we founders, have Bachelor Degrees in Electrical Engineer from Canterbury Uni, and worked for Link as Electrical engineer / designers, one was doing did his masters sponsered by Link. They had a deal for dyno use pre buying their own dyno as demand required.... Sorry to polute the tread. The sumner marine sounds awesome, have to take my starlet there. I meet the dude that brought your 25, he wants to buy some bits of me.. Cheers
