Raizer
haya boys and girlsim going to be putting a ca18 non-turbo in to my escort wagon and i have a few questions for those that have done the convertion. 1 Will i be able to get a way with keeping the battery upfront or not.? It should be possible with the DE but it might be tight, we had to lose it to fit the intake etc on the turbo 2 Is there any way that the mk2 brake booster can stay ? No 3 What sort of engine mounts are you useing? We used custom steel mounts with pinto Cortina rubber's 4Have you had to change the sump ? On the 2 CA's I have dropped into scorts (1 ET and 1 DET into the same van lol) I had to "shape" the sump to fit over the steering rack with a BFH 5 do i have to get shot of the rad suport Yes imo you do, and get the 2 front pulleys lathed off the crank pully to make some more room and can i have shit loads of pics of you convertion. Will try and find my pics later cheers dan
d.p.n.s
hay thanks hell so you think the best starting place is to remove the battry tray booster and rad suport and i should have loads of room. do you think a standered ca18 rad will fit in there? i havnt got all the things i bought yet so i can have a look . cheers dan
Raizer
Its up to you on the battery tray, as I said it may clear on a non turbo but yeah chop the rad support and take the booster out and you will have enough room -it is worth getting the pulley cut down too though! Im not sure about the rad fitting, I used one out of some diesel Mitsi that had the hoses in the right place.
esky 73
i have got a det in mine, battery in the boot, turned the cross member around 180deg, mounted rack brackets on the other side of the x member so that the rack ends up in the correct spot, this then clears the sump, factory escort engine mounts on x member, with a plate bolted to them that picks up on the nissan engine mounts, mines all fully cert'd like that, i know it mite sound rangi buts looks smart and works mint, i will try to get some photos of the underside of the car for you, why not turbz it way more fun!! RUNAMUCK
I have some mates from the datsun club. One of then does engine mounting, and another can remap CA ecu's. They're both in chch and their both on this forum too I think. (Although they don't visit much now we have a datto site again.
Gaz
What Hell said. Wether you need to mod sump or not will largly depend on how you make your engine mounts. The crossmember I just sold used standard sump.. the escort posts were cut down to right height and metal plates welded on to move the engine forward 3inch plus on the right angle. Mr.Mk1
Id be keen to know there whereabouts! Presume they are chris and the dude with the bluebird sss coupe who had a DET 4dr? The way i was going to do mine was get a Silvia front end and mount it through the common strut tower mounts, shorten width to suit and then id have factory mounts and disc legs up front, with the ability to run adjustables, if i so felt inclined to shake my fillings out my head. Thoughts? Im keen to see some pictures too eh, cant beat visuals. Heres mine thrown in with bits of wood holding it in and darts holding my grille haha

Raizer
I'l throw my pics up later, just please remember that I had nothing to do with making the mounts (my mate thought getting an engineer to knock them up for a box of piss was a good idea ), and that I don't own the rusty POS lol

Gaz
Here is mine in the car at the mo. Remember this is set back 3 inches compared to what it was when it cleared the firewall... it would most prob foul on std firewall. Here is the shit as one I just sold which had the engine mounted in a mk2 escort with std firewall and standard radiator
Mr.Mk1
As CA18DET is relatively modern and strong turbocharged engine, then engine responds well to common tuning practices. 200 bhp sport intake straigth through exhaust (2.25" or bigger from turbo downpip) boost set to 1.0 bar colder spark plugs ST1 chip 230 bhp bigger intercooler more powerful fuel pump 270 bhp bigger turbocharger (ex. T28 from S14) ST2 chip 330 bhp Nissan Skyline GT-R 444cc injectors Z32 MAF ST3 chip over 500 bhp Its possible to take over 500hp from CA18DET, but it will probably cost more than buying Nissan GT-R http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_1249/article.html http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_1415/article.html
