crazy_rich
capri's engine bay's are not as big as everyone thinks, especially mk1's with the boat hull valance cutting into valuable radiator space (not too sure about mk2's) you'd be cutting back the firewall or moving the front crossmember forward to fit any straight 6 in, and you'll have to watch plenum chambers hitting the brake booster with most modern turbo engines, because they are mounted far more inboard than most jappas. any engine you put in would need to have a rear sump as well, due to the steering rack being in front of the crossmember. all of those problems are easily rectified, but not if you're after a simple cheap conversion. vg30det gets my vote. Mean.. that means you should roll an L31 stroker in there treggo boe. Get a L28 from a 280ZX (rear sump). They're non crossflow so nothing is on the booster side except eh sparkplugs. They sound fucken epic and they go hard. People would of course think you were mental putting a Nissan SOHC in there but it's almost period correct and would be pretty cool I reckon, even if just for the randomness factor. insanebrain
If thinking V6, how about using an exploder (explorer) V6? Should be plenty about (assuming they fell over as often here as they did in the states), cheap, same engine family as the 4.6 mustang and 5.4 F150/Falcon and have plenty of tuning parts in the states. Not sure about their weight but they used to factory fit them to Mazda B2000's (and became B4000) in the states so can't be to bad.
treggo
Am I right in thinking that a twincam 4g63 in a north/south position the exhaust will be on the drivers side? It looks that way on the early heads but different on the newer ones?
Requiemk
dont think they would swap shit around, tis on the drivers side or east/west on front

lowlancer
On non-turbos, I'm 99% sure nothing ever changed, but Phil will confirm or DENY. They changed stz from EVO IV on then changed again at the VII then again at the IX I think. Crazy fuckers. In other Mitsubishi news, 380=gone

fuel
yeah pre Evo4 will have exhaust on drivers side while Evo4 onwards will be on passenger side. I haven't compared an Evo 4-9 block to an Evo 1-3/VR-4 block but the head is pretty much mirrored. Evo 4-9 is the same like how Evo 1-3 is, just minor differences. Evo X is completely different. You wont find an Evo4+ engine for cheap, that's for sure. non turbos are same deal, although there is no DOHC 4G63 N/A in evo4 orientation, just 4G64 and 4G69. You'll need a pre Evo block as it will have RWD mounts whereas Evo don't, also it will be front sump so that may be an issue. Starion block would be ideal but then you'll need a Starion gearbox to go with it. Sigma or L200 gearbox will fit N/A and VR-4 blocks. If you're after an N/A DOHC engine for cheapness, find one from an E33A Galant or pre-94ish RVR.

lowlancer
Nah Phil was right. Pre-Evo aka VR4 blocks still have castings for the RWD engine mounts.
treggo
Cheers for the help guys.. Ogre, Will get back to you in regards to box soon.
Vai-Man
oh and if you are doing this try get a vr4 block, because a 6 bolt flywheel is much easier to find than the 7 bolt evo variety, but if you do get 7 bolt block a 94+ l300 flywheel fits. me and a mate found out the hard way haha.
