Jonny
Is there a 5 speed box that will bolt up to a 1256 or are they only 4 speeds? Would probably need new driveshaft to if so, looking for a bolt in replacement. Cheers
mikuni
Not that I've ever seen. If looking for a 5 speed you would probably be best to drop a G series engine in, in 1600, 1800 or 2000 cc capacity and get double the power at the same time as an extra gear
Jonny
Cheers didn't think there was but im not into my vauxs. Nah its my girls car n she wants it fairly original, won't even lower it
mikuni
your girlfriend drives a chevette you should cut it in her sleep. most chicks won't even notice, just dort around smashing it over shit and wondering what that sound is/not even notice
Jonny
Haha nah, HC Viva, if it fits a chevette though it'd probably fit a viva easily enough.
Unclejake
Without meaning to be rude - why a 5 speed? If it is reving too hard on the motorway some taller tyres or a taller diff would be a cheaper and much easier option. If she just wants a five speed then fairynuff etc. and I will STFU
MACKAZ
Find an auto diff, should be taller ratio.
Jase
viva's have the long gearbox's chevettes have the short ass ones they have a foot difference in length in the lay shaft, so you cannot even swap them over, since she refuses to allow you to lower it, whack some big rubber on the back and away you go taller gearing and a mean gasser stance, ps you will have to remember your speedo will read slower and acceleration will be a lot slower
lowlancer
acceleration will be a lot slower Has the 1256, not possible to go slower
Jay GTi
A few guys in the UK have modified the bellhousing on a Toyota K50 gearbox, but that sounds like a lot of hassle for not much gain.
Mike-e
acceleration will be a lot slower Has the 1256, not possible to go slower actually i've got to say that fuels viva goes stupidly well for a 12fidy6

Jase
finding the power in a 1256 is like finding a 70 year old nuns clit, surprisingly pleasing quote that you bitches, if you set the tapets on inlet and exhaust at the same setting you do get more boot, came out of a gregory's manual i read and it worked
Insani-T
whack some big rubber on the back and away you go taller gearing and a mean gasser stance, ????? That would give it the "dragster" stance not gasser
