escorted
Anyone done/has one i can buy or copy for a pintod escort?
Gaz
They are pretty easy to make and not really something you need to copy. Different ride heights and driveshaft dia are going to change the loop dia. Page two of my project thread has pics of mine about half way down page. http://www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewto ... 8&start=20 There are standards you must meet for the size metal to make them out of. Think, but dont quote me on, 6mm thick, 60mm wide. 150mm from front driveshaft universal. Must have plates inside floor of car where the bolts come through. 4x bolts (Id go with M10's to be safe) Gaz
RT
I got told it was 50mm wide and 5mm thick.. I've got a problem making one with my car so low.. so I've got a peice of 5mm steel tube which I plan on welding some tags too and putting it up in the tunnel. most hoops I've seen have been way oversized.. and then get all bashed up from speedbumps. You can buy hoops off the shelf at american auto parts shops. Too big though imo.
Unclejake
Wouldn't you be able to make the "loop" out of flat strap steel if you put it up the front near the gearbox where the driveshaft does not need to travel vertically?? That way it won't hange down more than 6-7mm benetah the floor.
RT
has to be 300mm back from end of gearbox I think,

Thats what ive done. Mine is basically over the universal. The shaft does still move a bit but not hugelly. I didnt want the weight of the diff hanging on the dshaft up front when I jacked the ass up and left the wheels hanging. Mine hangs down about 20mm max. Other shit scraps, not the loop. Unclejake
All I can find on the LTSA website is: 6.7 Suspension and drive line 6.7(1) The suspension must be strong enough for reasonably foreseeable conditions of loading and operation. 6.7(2) A passenger service vehicle must be designed, constructed and maintained so that no excessive body sway will occur which is likely to adversely affect the steering stability. 6.7(3) Axle-stops, shackles, or similar devices must be maintained within safe tolerance of their original condition. 6.7(4) Devices to protect against drive-shaft failure must be maintained within safe tolerance of their original condition. There is probably a Low Volume Vehicle standard that I have not found. I am asuming that the question is related to road use. If the application is for motorsport then the regulations are clear in Schedule A of the MSNZ manual (which is also online).
kpr
needs to be within 150mm back from the universal. mine is lucky if it has 10mm clearance between driveshaft and loop. as theres not much movent at that point

RT
does it have to go over teh top of the drive shaft like that? or just underneath it?
Bistro
id do it above. other wise youd get driveshaft bashing throught the floor. not cool.
Gaz
If ya look hard it goes ontop and below ds. Its a mint job by the looks. Nicly fits up around the tunnel.

Gaz
Nup.. They have acentre driveshaft hanger but not a driveshaft loop. Also it is not 150mm away from the universal.
drftnmaz
whats the deal with two peice driveshafts? i know you'll need 2 hoops but 150mm from the front on both or at rear of one? etc
zep
I have a 2 piece drive shaft and only had to use 1 loop at the front universal. This may not apply to all though as my middle joint sits in an old x-member which is thick as and the floor pan above this has been reinforced with 6mm plate steel. Would act as a loop in itself.
