Gaz
What exactly do you want to know? How to put pistons in? bigends? How to gap rings or what? These are all general so just search for engine rebuilding or maybe a library book. Pretty much all the other shit you do is sent away to do. Like rebore, crank grind etc. You say you are on a budget. I would pull the engine down first and check the bore. I would try and save money in the piston department. They are the most expensive part of rebuilding the pinto. They could be fine! I would rather rebuild everything else in the engine rather than buy pistons that arnt fully needed. Also some things arnt avaliable in NZ for the pintos so will need to be ordered from UK. Hope something there helps.

TygerTung
Engines are SO simple, you won't have a problem, just get a book out the library on one or buy one, it tells you everything you need to know, you won't regret it.

esky boi
Dam you could do abit to a pinto for that, you're doing the all the building yourself I take it? For a basic rebuild.. ie. new bearings, gaskets, rings etc its about 350 ish all up.. then youve got another grand to play round with so yea
Gaz
I cant member how much RT wants for that head he has (could suit turbo from memory) but it could be a good start. OR If you had a grand left over you could. (chances are you wont if you have to replace pistons and rebore, crank grind, etc.) - Buy a 1600 pinto head. Get it worked a little with larger valves and take some metal out of the chambers to slightly lower compression. maybe spend $500 there on a cheapish port polish. - Buy a cam from kiwicams or the likes for round $100 - Extractors from the net for maybe $50 or from coby for $250ish - lighten flywheel a little - rejet 32/36 carb could be $5ish. That should be good for round 130hp I would say depending on the port job.

mk2_escort
well thats good 2 no lol. yeah should b able 2 do most of the work ourselves. after the rebuild the mods i have in mind are extracters, exhaust, carbs (hopefully twin 40's sideys), port and polish head, cam (including rocker arm set and valve springs). i realy want 2 stick with the 2l pinto as i want lots of torque on tap . so yeah im just looking 4 advise on rebuilding at the moment (as the car isnt running) and weil look at working the engine later... Do you mean you have $1400 just to rebuild the engine? In that case you might as well use new or second hand forged pistons as thats a lot of money to rebuild to standard spec. Or throw some balancing in there with it.
mk2_escort
put it this way... iv picd up a sierra 4 $200, iv got at least 1400 2 spend on it 2 get it going (not going at the moment), and giving the engine a decent once over, not going overboard, and then working it. dont need 2 go forged, but down the track i want around 150hp atw would be nice
esky boi
You could get that much power out of it pretty easily with 1400 to spend man.. depending on how much you're intending to spend on the rebuild that is. If its a decent motor, ie the bores / pistons arent shagged then you wont be looking at much more than 300-350 to rebuild it..
