Borgwarner Diff Help!!

Mk1Daniel

Recommended Posts

So I have a Mk1 Escort Coupe with an sr20det in it.

The diff ratio sucks. goes like 80ks in 1st.

Its a BorgWarner lsd out of a v8 falcon (apparently)

Can I use the crownwheel and pinion out of this http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/holden/diffs-axles/auction-789203984.htm

and keep the rest of the lsd gear?
Havnt had a BorgWarner apart before and thought I might as well ask instead of fucking around just to see

You need to know a bit more about your diff.

It should have what type it is stamped on the crown wheel you can see it if you take the back hat off.

That VL diff will be a 75 series. it seems odd that it is a 4.11 to my knowledge the lowest ratio VL diff was 3.45.

The BW model number is the diameter of the crownwheel in (tenths of) inches - 68 = 6.8", 75 = 7.5", 78 = 7.8"

2.77:1 some Falcons (possibly Fairlanes), I have heard that these may require a different housing
2.92:1 also Ford stuff
3.08:1 standard on VN-VS V6 and V8
3.23:1 VK 1/2 injected six
3.45:1 VL
3.7:1 R31 Skyline manual
3.89:1 R31 Skyline auto - dodgy according to most people, noisy and possibly failure prone
3.91:1 R31 Skyline auto supersedes above
4.11:1 R31 Pintara
