Mk1Daniel
So I have a Mk1 Escort Coupe with an sr20det in it. The diff ratio sucks. goes like 80ks in 1st. Its a BorgWarner lsd out of a v8 falcon (apparently) Can I use the crownwheel and pinion out of this http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/holden/diffs-axles/auction-789203984.htm and keep the rest of the lsd gear?Havnt had a BorgWarner apart before and thought I might as well ask instead of fucking around just to see
ZOO222
If the diff you have is indeed a Borgwarner 78. Then yes you can change the crown wheel and pinion over to the LSD. This might helphttp://calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=155191
Valiant
You need to know a bit more about your diff. It should have what type it is stamped on the crown wheel you can see it if you take the back hat off. That VL diff will be a 75 series. it seems odd that it is a 4.11 to my knowledge the lowest ratio VL diff was 3.45.
Mk1Daniel
Cheers mate. Yeah pretty sure it's a borgwarner
Valiant
Good yeah but there is about 3 different types of Borg warner. 74/75 and 78. some bits interchange and some don't.
Mk1Daniel
I have read that vls and r31s can have 4.11 but I don't know.. ok guess I'll have to pull it apart.. will it be on the tag? Mines broken off but I need to know what the vl one is

locost_bryan
The BW model number is the diameter of the crownwheel in (tenths of) inches - 68 = 6.8", 75 = 7.5", 78 = 7.8" http://www.aussiev8.com.au/driveline-suspension/33590-diff-information-thread-basics-salisbury-borgwarner-bw78-ford-9-a.html 2.77:1 some Falcons (possibly Fairlanes), I have heard that these may require a different housing2.92:1 also Ford stuff3.08:1 standard on VN-VS V6 and V83.23:1 VK 1/2 injected six3.45:1 VL3.7:1 R31 Skyline manual3.89:1 R31 Skyline auto - dodgy according to most people, noisy and possibly failure prone3.91:1 R31 Skyline auto supersedes above4.11:1 R31 Pintara
kurtis1791
Rb20e auto vls were 4.11 oz didnt get them so dont know
locost_bryan
V8 Falcon should have a 28-spline 4-pinion BW78. According to this chart 4.11 VK/VL Commodore was 25-spline 2-pinion BW75 (VL Turbo and V8 got BW78). http://www.difflappingqld.com.au/uploads/web/gear-diff-ratios.pdf

Rookie
The only option is to find out what you have to begin with.
locost_bryan
Is the ID tag missing from the diff? Only way to be sure is to take the back cover off, measure the diameter of the crownwheel, count the number of teeth, and count the number of splines on the halfshafts.
Mk1Daniel
Yeah, you can see half its been ripped right off. Nothings ever simple with modified cars
EFI_LC
Just to throw something out there, I have a BW 4.11:1 from a VN wagon 4 cylinder. Apparently they run ex VL diffs so that Holden could get rid of the excess they had.
