CaMpylobacter
nice! try rover 90 diff heads for a nice (potentially) easier regear. or lok for an overdrive unit
ae70-82
thats awesome and its nice to see one running. Basically everything that goes wrong with them has already been fixed for you
nzstato
nice! try rover 90 diff heads for a nice (potentially) easier regear. or lok for an overdrive unit I did consider that (3.5 vs 3.9, though availability is what it may come down to. Plus I read the range rover ones are slightly stronger. Being a nissan box I am also unsure if an O/D unit would be possible. Though a 5spd out of a late model may suit. f100_dreamin
That's soooo awesome! Makes me want another old landy (sold my last one nearly 10 years ago an still miss it)

mattscort
Nice landy, I know what you mean about the cabin noise - I've got a ld28 running through the standard landrover 4 speed. Works mean for towing etc. but can't really go above 80-90 on open road. Any idea what ratio the standard diffs are?

That would be a good convo, the guy I got it from intended on using a LD28 but couldnt source one at the time. Considering the ED3.3 is such a low reving engine I imagine it would be perfect with the longer legs
DonMcDazzle
Wicked mate, nice and tidy looking one you got there. I recently bought a series 2a myself although it isn't as tidy as yours. Mine has Landcruiser diffs in it (with a landcruiser 3.4lt TD engine), cruises at 100k fine.
CaMpylobacter
interesting, didn't relaise it had a nissan box! what does it do for a transfer case? also, DonMcDazzle: I'm immensely jealous of you for buying that one.

Yeah if you saw it on trademe it isn't quite as nice looking in real life haha plenty of little things that need tidying up. Mechanically it is pretty awesome though, it will be an animal when it is all sorted. It also has a landcruiser 5 speed gearbox so the ratios are fine for the open road. Where are you planning on getting door tops from nzstato? Can't seem to find anywhere in NZ that does them at a decent price. They're like 25 pounds new in the UK but I can't find them for less than $200 over here.
nzstato
Yea I saw that one on TM, cool conversion, best of luck with it. I have no idea for the transfer case. Its not original LD since it has a single lever so I assume Nissan of some sort.... I havent had a chance to have a REALLY good look at it just yet since I need to clear a few cars off the section first (one of the reasons it was bought) so just driving the thing at the moment. Just about find any excuse to drive it at the moment (i.e. to go buy beers from 500m down the road) since its just alot of fun. Hadnt figured out where I'm going to get them from, there is a local yard who specialise in 2nd hand and new parts for these things so was going to bail them up. Cheers, I'll probably put a thread on here about it if I get round to taking any photos. Let me know how you get on with your local guys with the door tops, I could always get them courier'd from down there if they do decent prices and/or have good condition 2nd hand ones (hell of a lot cheaper than shipping from the UK).
