I've heard of Kilroy, he posts on fastmarinamagazine forum and I think there's also another guy called Zeb (also in lytleton) who has a load of marina's, who's number I was given when I bought the car. Being British originally I just thought it'd be cool to make all the KE, DX, Datto, Gemini etc boys laugh. Besides, who hasn't seen a brightly colored or camo KE Corolla or a DX on modgies ? Getting a little boring, as cool as they are. It's also a very easy car to learn with, everything is extremely simple Going to have a bash at rebuilding the starter motor, from what I hear online it might be just seized or gunked up. kilroy Posted December 22, 2010 Share Posted December 22, 2010 Bing.! Jeez - Marinas eh.? Still got a few.. lol. Joe. Your car most certainly was a 262 originally. I know someone with a rebuilt 262 motor who might be persuaded to sell it... Current power is B series 1800 as mentioned by many - so its a bigger cousin of the A series - but does not share bits. I imagine your starter motor probably only needs brushes, and they should be readily available. Best source of carbs/manifolds would be from another Marina - the 1.8HL. Its a Mk2 with MGB carbs, manifolds, exhausts and camshaft. Only thing it didn't get was the crankshaft - but doesn't need it. There was one for sale on Trademe that would have donated all the bits. Had some body damage, and the guy was holdin out for too much. Keep your eyes open for something similar. Lots of go-faster bits available for MGBs. As your Marina is an Australian body, I'm not sure that it has provision for fitting the swaybar - although the aftermarket clamp-on types can be used. These things tend to understeer badly, so stiffening the suspension will help. To my knowledge, no Oz Marinas had the B series engine, so you probably have both engine and gearbox from a UK model. The gearbox is actually a Triumph unit, so that is another source of parts. Good luck with it, and PM me if I can help. Cheers all. I had a kinda warm fuzzy for the superlites then - so I grabbed a set of 13x7 drilled to suit the Marina squitty stud pattern. Don't bother nicking them for the Escort - they don't fit... Unfortunately, that didn't stop some pervert from doing just that. These cars have also been lowered by 2" - which says something about just how tall they were standard.. Anyway - that and the trend on RetroRides prompted me to go to widened steels.. .. but you can't beat the 'flash' that the superlites add.. Some colour schemes seem to suit them better than others.. Think I much prefer the grille to the aussie ones too. There's a nice estate on trademe for 2K, needs some steering rack repairs. Better get this one up to spec first! Snoozin Posted January 4, 2011 Share Posted January 4, 2011 ISo apparently she's a 74, I had wondered by the badge i found in the glovebox that said 262-six, not sure if this makes much of a difference, but since it's been converted from manual as the original six cylinders only came in automatic as I recall. I wonder if I could find a six cylinder and if the manual box would bolt up... Sweet car dude... huge embarrassing soft spot for the Marina here. The 262's came in manual, we had one as our family car until I was 16... these were a 3 speed manual, a Borg Warner light commercial gearbox so I recall the old man saying once? Ain't no good if don't do a skid haha. anyway I managed to get the starter sussed out, and with a new battery and some Aerostart she started up quite nicely. Still a bugger to start first time of the day but it does start. Hopefully once I get some seatbelt stalks fitted I'll look into some wheels for the beast. I saw some nice wide steelies at the wreckers today so I'll see what he's got lying around. Hopefully I can find some wider deeper ones.
