Rattling in clutch/gearbox

seriously though have you checked the input shaft for play?

i would doubt the spigot bearing would be fukt and causing it, normally they catch and drag the input shaft causing engagement issues...

from what i remember anyway...

noises like that are usually either the release (throw out) bearing or a fucked input shaft bearing.

Without sounding patronising or anything,

Or you sure youve got the right thurst bearing? its installed correctly WITH that little clip like thing that attaches it to clutch fork?

Its something that has pressure against it when clutch is dissengaged and theres only 2 things it could be.

spigot/pilot bearing shouldnt rattle regardless how fucked/new it is. Only 'grind'

Probably will have nothing to do with the noise, but did you take a couple of mm off the end of the input shaft when you put the T9 behind the Kent?

If not it will be loading up the thrust washers in your engine etc.

No I didn't. As there isn't much information out there on how to do the conversion. Infact theres nothing bout it into a mk 2 cortina..

So the shaft has to be shortened? Never knew about. We never did that in an escort and it didnt make any noise..

YES. Sierra thrust bearing.

One thing that confuses me is that I dont seem to have any free play in clutch either. The forks all the way back in bellhousing but feels like it needs to go further.

Its going to have to come to bits again. And i'll probly end up takin clutch and flywheel back to BNT for them to look at

So yea...Been to The guys that rebuilt my gearbox and to BNT where got flywheel and clutch done and they were very unsure. The gearbox people managed to stop it by just holding gear stick slightly on a gear so it loads up and it stoppped that way too. (as well as foot on clutch) They also thought something wasn't right with clutch as it engages with very little depression. Making me think the thrust bearing isn't moving far away enough from the pressure plate teeth...even though the fork is right back on bellhousing...Any one follow? lol Fuckin strange and confusing

So basic answer is to remove tranny again and inspect. Will update

Yeah it won't be what is causing the noise, but it can/will make the thrust washers in the engine wear out pretty quick.

Basically if you cut the tapered bit off the end of the shaft and grind another taper its sweet.

Checked out mates sierra 5 speed conversion today on his capri. His clutch fork sits like half way off end off bellhousing hole.(or in middle of hole in box. Strange as mines all way back and seems to need to go further..

mAybe flywheels are in different places in the V4 , mine being a 1600 xflow.

sounds like theres something wrong with your setup, how much can you see through the hole? maybe its worth dropping out the gearbox and having another look.

is it possible that the release bearing has come away from the clutch fork? on my escort 4 speed box its not all that hard to pull it off

I removed gearbox clutch and flywheel last night.

Took it in to BNT and Auto transmission and the reckon theres something not right with the clutch fork. It doesnt sit in the pivot point very good. And the new thrust bearings looks wobbly. Bloody self adjusting one just dont look right.

Going to try find another sierra bellhousing and clutch fork. See what another one looks like. Checked pilot bearing. Looks ok but not bad. Checked spare motors as well and seems the same so don't think it was that. Everything looks sweet...Has to be the fork.

So na not thrust bearing come off. Can see heaps through the gap. TO still looks like it needs to go back further back..theres no free play for some reason like the clutch kit is too big.
