EFI_LC
Event Name Christchurch Casino Wigram Revival Race Meeting Event Date Saturday, October 30, 2010 Event Description F5000 competing for Lady Wigram Trophy. Supported by Formula Libre, Pre 65, OSCA, Mini's, Historic Touring Cars, Historic & Classic Saloons, VCC and Motorcycles. Start arrival time for competitors 7.00am Arrival time for spectators 9.30am I am going to watch my mates XU-1 do its stuff before going up to the North Island to take on some classics up there. This car is one of the quickest historic cars of the era, there has been a bit more development but to say this is a quick car actually understates it. This thing is dam well plain fast, and it has been held back for most of its life but will be unleashed if needed, as a couple of cars in the past have found out
anglia4
is that meeting over the sunday as well? Is that John Ray's old Torana? I'm keen as mustard to go to that meet but have an exam on the saturday
BobbyBreeze
Sounds Lush. Assume its at Ruapuna rather than Wigram?
EFI_LC
Saturday only and yep at Ruapuna. The sound of those F5000 cars is amazing. To me this is a lineup from heaven with some good supporting classes.
Ranter
Have seen that Torana at the drags before, it sounds incredible. Is it genuine?
EFI_LC
Have seen that Torana at the drags before, it sounds incredible. Is it genuine? Its a Genuine race XU-1 but not the original Brock car as that was destroyed in the 70's. It did a rather slow 12.5@115mph as its geared for 150mph+ circuit racing and first gear pulls around 70mph so we are working on getting a diff just for the drags with possibly a 4.3 rear end (I have a LSD for him which should give it around 7500rpm in top as it crosses the line. We are hopefull it could roll off a mid-high 11 which would make it possibly the quickest N/A 202 powered Holden ever. From memory there was a drag car in Austrailia which was capable of 11.4 or 11.5 using the 202 motor.

Exam is at 2.30 so should be able to at least see some racing first.

My name is Russell
F5000's . . . . MAN THEY ARE SWEET! . . . Every OS cunt in the SI should go just to see them! Sounds like a good event!
anglia4
They are fricken amazing. I did a week work experience at motorsport solutions, got to polish a Lola T430. You get a whole new appreciation for the detail of them when you have to polish every surface on it! Namely i can remember metal polishing the alloy wing that is bigger than my dinner table! brocky41
We will be there - parents are coming down from Hawkes Bay for this event - we went to Bruce McLaren revival at Hampton Downs was awesome - dont wear earplugs - just gotta harden up. Most of the time the F5000 class has to get special dispensation to run as they are so loud - think fully worked 5L V8 and open headers. They are also running a revival for the OSCA class - pretty much any engine in any car as long as it has big HP and weighs nothing - examples are the Don Grindley widebody RX7 with 500Hp buick V6 and the Trevor Crowe Starlet also wide body with 500hp rover v8 See you all there

legoman
We'll be there on Sunday. In a car with a gearbox that works thanks
anglia4
That was well worth the price of admission! To quote my flatmate - "F5000's sound like god stubbed his toe... While on fire" Some great battles between Steve Ross and Kenny Smith. Plenty of Anglia's which was great to see!
anglia4
EFI LC was that torana at moorhouse muscle a few months back? If so its a really sharp car!
CUL8R
^ Great racing, shame about that bloody wind. F5000's were brilliant as always, huge fields! Muffler on car I borrowed fell off completely on the way home from 'puna, sounded like a streetstock!
EFI_LC
EFI LC was that torana at moorhouse muscle a few months back? If so its a really sharp car! Umm not that I know of although it needed a total reupholster job as it caught fire earlier in the year at Timaru. I was gutted when he told me last week it wasn't going as he wanted to make sure it was spot on for the North Island. Geez the Northerners won't know what what hit em when it gets there. I could only go the Sunday but that battle of the F5000's caused the lap record to fall 3 times I was told during the pre lunch race to 1.17, the only person to go quicker at Ruapuna is Scott Dixon in a Formula Holden.
