cute wee gem
So my mate Happy (also known as gumboot man from OS nats) and I have started making a trailer to tow cars/buggy etc around. 4m long x 2m wide tilting drawbar winch tandem axle/slipper springs with brakes Total cost so far minus consumables; 1190 for axle kit, brakes, lights, hitch etc 140 for winch 800 for steel Here's a couple of pics from the last few days progress.

fishtailfred
Bump to an ancient thread: Â What section (size and wall) is the main longitudinal and cross ways box in the deck? Â IF you still remember. Â What did you cover it with? Ply? Steel? Alloy? Chicken-feathers? Â Any more recent finished pics? Â Cheers!
cute wee gem
Wow haha. I haven't needed to use it, so never bothered to finish. Just needs wiring hooked up and it can go for its wof/reg. Â It has 18mm? ply deck and the support is 50x50x2.5mm? I think

shizzl
this is the puppy i built..took me a few years to actually get around to doing it. i bought all the steel after i sold my last stockcar,so its just been sitting round so i finally decided to build it. i love it, it tows so nice, even at 110kph you forget its behind you. Â i havent got the brakes on yet but ill be using a set of discs and calipers off a fwd toyota.. Â this has been made to carry my stockcar and some spare wheels. winch yet to be done..and it still needs painting. shizzl
oh and its deck area is 4200x1990..
fishtailfred
So I wasn't far off with the chicken feathers, then! Thanks for the info, guys. Looking forward to pics! Â I was thinking about the box wall thickness and realised that the box in my ute chassis is 2.5mm on one side and 3mm on the other. That's roughly 50x120 or so, though? Food for thought. Â Fred. KKtrips
Are you asking or stating something? It's a little ambiguous.
fishtailfred
Just a data point for comparison in load carrying. I've grossed 4.5 tonne in my truck with "just" that box section and the usual cross members. The trailer would have a lot easier time of things. Planning my own trailer build, very slowly, hence asking to see what others are up to
