mikuni
I think these Viva Estates's typify Vauxhall styling of the era. Looks super tidy, mustn't be many left like that now. Also, I don't know if you saw this, but would REALLY be worth it for the parts on there. To be honest I could see it going for decent coin, so maybe try and give the guy a call to secure it off trademe. If you add up what it would cost for all of those parts seperately and what you could sell anything you don't need on for, its an absolute steel. And look at those sweet little twins. edit for forgotten link http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 603280.htm

yoeddynz
If anyone in chch wants that motor I will be heading to nelson in roughly 2 weeks and I'm down in chch possibly once a month. I can pick up deliver. That's what old vans like ours are made for!

d.p.n.s
yeah there is only 2 bolts holding the starter in and if you take the alt off you can just pull the starter out. dan
d.p.n.s
to be honest ....no its not a good idea. you can bolt a 2.0 pinto and escort 4 speed in with out having to change the sump or crossmember but you cant bolt a escort 4 speed to the pinto ... i have tryed with a lightened escort flywheel .............and no it didnt work i have tryed with standard escort flywheel...........and not it hit the block i hav tryed with a 1600ohc flywheel p,plate and clutch.......and no the clutch fork wont engage untill it is almost hitting the gearbox so .......no it wont work. i have tyryed the 2.0 with seirra 5 speed and it will work if you..... cut the crossmember and make a new one from scratch or cut the sump and make it front bowl. and then you will have to make a new gearbox crossmember and drive shaft as well as the gear lever will be so far back that you will have to cut the hand brake and seat belt mounts out and weld them in 6-7" back and trhat wont be easy as the hand brake lines comne threw the floor. so all in all ..........no its a cunt of a job thats why i sold my viva i would just go for a ca18det,13b rotary,1600 xflow or datsun motor as they will work. cheers dan

I was fully expecting to have to make up a new driveshaft and gearbox mount (would probably have to do this with any of the other setups you mentioned anyways). So, if I modified the sump to put the bowl at the front, that would allow the engine to sit in the standard mounts? Then the shifter would be in a better position too? I would wanna do the whole thing for cheaps anyway, more just for fun then anything. Cheers
d.p.n.s
i tryed to do it for cheap and it wasnt goint to work. if you make the front bowl sump it will have to winged so you have enough oil. you will have to cut the some cortina engine mounts down to bolt it to the standard viva mounts. then the motor will be about 3" away from the firwall but you will still have to move the handbrake and that means you will have to move the seatbelt mounts aswell. honestly mate i dont mind making shit fit and making all my own stuff and i like to think ive got a wee bit of an idea about what im doing but .........i gave up as it started to be a pain and it also started to mount up cash wise. im not trying to put you off atall mate .its just that i tryed and the above is the issues i had. cheers dan
yoeddynz
A crossflow drops in lovely like though. But finding decent crossflows these days.... Look at the datsun motors. The others on here have more idea than me on them. A15? But if you stick one of them in and remove any datsun script from like the rocker cover etc I reckon would get it through an wof no questions asked- it could be made to look stock. coldturkey
Ive actually got an A15, its in a Vanette. Coloumn change though, would I be able to make the viva GB fit? A15 needs a rebuild though which was next on this list With a xflow I would have to make up a complete new exhaust on the other side though right
d.p.n.s
yes but the floor is the same on both sides i belive so it shoulnt be hard. and to be honest if are able to make mounts for a x/low,pinto,a15 to fit a viva and gear box mounts then cutting the old exhaust or making a new one shouldnt be a problem for you
coldturkey
yea you're right, plus I had a look at the sierra engine today and the exhaust is also on the opposite side. Its a DOHC too. I'll post a pic tommorrow when I get a chance. I still dunno though, I mean I'll probably end up pulling out the sierra engine anyway, might just pull the sump off and sit it in place to see if I can make it work. I totally get where you are coming from though but I still like having a tinker

I totally get where you are coming from though but I still like having a tinker is your sierra motor twin cam? as i only tryed the 2.0 pinto (not that i think there is much differance between the motors size wise) but yes mate have a play as you might be able to see away of doing it as i think i looked at mine far to long and took the mototr in and out so meny times and just got fucked off. dan
