Mk1Daniel
Does anyone else here have a problem with escort clutch cables snapping? Its already happened to me twice and its really fucking me off. had to drive yesterday with no clutch pedal
peteretep
it usually happens because there is something wrong with other things, have a look at how it is sitting in the car, can anything fuck with it? Although maybe your cables could have had a real hard life, was your replacement cable new or used as well?
KKtrips
My guess the cable inner is rubbing on something - check at the firewall for metal to metal contact or rubbing
Mk1Daniel
Was a new cable. just ordered two today lol
EFI_LC
Where is the break in the cable, check that area and you will find it is rubbing, usually you can precieve the break by the cable making a few noises (creaking) for a few days or so. I have broken 2 on my LC over the past 7 years as I converted it to cable. I shortened the cable and modified a socket and washer and now I have no problems. kyteler
I had this happen on my old MkII Escort. Where it runs through the firewall it had eaten through the steel, creating a little groove that the cable then got jammed in and snapped, in the end we welded up a little bit of pipe that the cable runs through. Mk1Daniel
I had this happen on my old MkII Escort. Where it runs through the firewall it had eaten through the steel, creating a little groove that the cable then got jammed in and snapped, in the end we welded up a little bit of pipe that the cable runs through. Thats exactly what happened. I also had very similar idea. so no problems after that
kyteler
Nope, lasted forever, only thing to make sure of is that the pipe sits on an appropriate angle so there's little/no contact point for the cable to wear itself out on. I'm sure you figured that out though, just wanted to make sure.
mk2harrier
are you running a pinto as the exhaust can heat them up and they can snap if its too close. if this is the case try shielding it with aluminium tape to reflect the heat and route it as far from the manifold as possible. My name is Russell
There should be a plastic shroud were it goes through the firewall

Mk1Daniel
The Cable has a white plastic bit that fits into a small tube type thing in the firewall. Dont know what you mean by clip

Chrome_GT
The Cable has a white plastic bit that fits into a small tube type thing in the firewall.Dont know what you mean by clip Hey, My Capri used to snap cables. Finally noticed after a couple times that there was a crack under the firewall tube you mentioned. This meant that the tube sat at an unusual angle (pointed downwards due to the crack). Got the tube realligned and welded and no problems since. Oh by the way for other Capri owners, the 2000cc Capri clutch cable is a nighmare to buy new, but if you buy the QCC1010 mk4 cortina cable and shorten the inner by about 45 mm it'll fit up nicely. Has the same ends on it. Had myne shortened by Safe R Brakes and costs $10 or so
eke_zetec_RWD
ha mine snaped last week, used that as an excuse to rebuild engine. well it hasnt fully snaped yet but half or so of the strands did in the pedal box so lost half my clutch travel. will have a closer look when i remove pedal box. mine was new about 5000km ago. very heavy clutch tho
