kyteler
Sorted your pictures bro. Also, I say definitely give the car a sodablasting. Doesn't look all that bad as far as Mk1 'scrotums go. Word of warning though. Take those guards off. You'll regret it later if you don't.
tregath
yea pictures have been sorted. Yea im in the process of gettign them off. might take a while, only took me 2 months to get the doors off. im working on drivers guard atm, but it has been off in the past and when was refitted instead of spotwelding on it has been welded from inside the tyrewell in a long weld along the seam. QCADTA
good project. just cut through ya front panel to get them off easier and save up for a new one. that one looks pretty rooted?
peteretep
looks like a good project, id take the whole thing apart, like all glass out, theres no point trying to work around it, and some kind of blasting would be mean, pretty much dont fuck around asking a million questions on here, just go talk to some dude and if he seems reasonable then do it and dont worry about what media he uses, plus if you give them some primer they can do it for you for pretty cheap, like under a grand. But remember, if you take it to them as a rolling shell, they wont do where shit mounts to the car, so try take them a non rolling body, and maybe give them a spit to use, and you'll get best results and definately take the gaurds off
tregath
Yea if the guy is keen to do at my place il have it on stands ready for him. its just a rolling shell at the moment no windows and hopfully soon no guards as soon as i can get a extension bit for my stubby lil spotweld drillbit. The front panel is pretty rooted at the bottom but im tempted to see if it can be patched as most of it will be hidden by the front spoiler

Gaz
Make the gaurds bolt on is the best thing I can recomend. I cut that part that is rusty (where spare wheel sits) and made mine flat so you cant see the ugly seem from the side when looking at it. Means ya spare wheel dont fit in there anymore tho. You dont want blasting in your own shed, mega mega messy shit that goes EVERYWHERE.
tregath
Good idea, might try that. The guy doesnt have anywhere he can do it, might see if he can do on back lawn?
peteretep
when i talked to guys about it years ago, it was a 10k fine for blasting in a residential area due to the mess made, the guy i talked to about doing it at my house was not keen at allalso, is tregath your last name?? my last name is XXXXXXXX... weird
My name is Russell
Mean another escort Rust doesn't look to bad, Just grab a welder and have a go, its fairly simple to get a hang of. Make sure you repair all the rust properly otherwise it just kicks you in the ass later. My guess would be that a sway bar would be better, Does it have the mounting points at the front for one? A start could be to completely strip it down. remove the windows interior running gear everything and build a rotisserie for it then slowly recondition the parts and panel work for re assembly Good luck. escorted
Looks like a good project. Check the door jams aswell. Always plently of rust hiding in there
d.p.n.s
good little mk1 there the floors dont seem to bad. but like the guys have said and i agree 100% strip it completly ...take the gaurds off and the doors as well and if your like me and cant realy aford to get it blasted just slowly start stipping the whole thing back to a bear shell using paint stripper and flapper sanding discs. at least when you have it stirped you can fix all the rust and you go. dan
Mr.Mk1
The 3M purple stripping wheels are the shit for bare metalling, the sanding siscs are a bit hard on the steel. I learned this the hard way when i was poor, and all i had to strip mine was half used sanding discs. Its the reason i now have a fucked shell. My name is Russell
Wire brush on a grinder isn't to abrasive and doesnt take to0o0o0o long if its only original paint your removing. Doing an area at a time is probably a good idea also, advice i should probably take on myself
QCADTA
and also if you do get blasted i would worry about what they use, sand and shit is very abrasive and will destort/warp ya panels especially with escorts being as old as they are. My name is Russell
I agree Iv found the panel steel on my yellow escort is allot softer than the other half dozen i have taken to with grinders. It seems to be really soft/weaker than normal . Meh anyways back on topic. With rust this bad is it worth getting blasted? Im just thinking perhaps you could repair what is ovios rust for now and by the time you have guards of etc there wont be as much to sand back or do by hand. I guess it depends how full on you want to go from the start and the timeframe you have in mind.
Gaz
Since you are going bubble arches anyways then there is a guy on trademe who sells a full fiberglass gaurd with bubble arch already on. They are pretty cheap too. Best way to repair your gaurds and do arches at same time! Good part about it is that you get straights as gaurds! Think this is the guy but he has none listed at the mo. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 180944.htm
tregath
There are 6 or so spots of rust that need cutting/welding. But i was considering blasting for al the hard to sand places, ie floor pan, inside boot and underneath as i am dubious of the underseal. I have no problem with sanding body/doors etc but its all the fiddling shit a sander wont get into
