Just saw the new supercheap mailer and saw the 50% off 3m paint range, im guessing they are bringing in a new range? Has anyone used this for painting a complete car? Im about a year away from painting, how long does it keep? Am I Best to wait or grab the lot now and store it? And approx how much paint would be needed for a mk1 escort 2 door?

Turns out the condensor was stuffed, and fitted a new fuel filter which improved it a little and got a mechanic to look at it and the carb is that worn it cannot be tuned. So looking for a replacment carb or service kit if i get stuck. Does anyone know about these http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 493306.htm They look the same as the kit repco want $150 for. Might just give one a try

So i Have the trike all sorted for a WOF test tomorrow, but i get it out on the road for a rip down the street and back, but at 1/3 throttle while under load it coughs and splutters and blows chuffs of black smoke. I have tried playing with a few tihngs but cannot get it running right. Its a 75ish 1300 aircooled beetle motor. has new plugs, points and leads. it runs allright at idle and at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle but any higher then that and it starts spluttering. timing has been reset. the autochoke has been disconnected and the choke tightened up so its about 1/3 open. when engines warm i have tried to move the choke but any movement either way makes it die. it was like this when i got it. I have tried adjusting the mixture screw but this does not change it. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Well i have just learnt something new today

just fitted the new exhaust, leads,plugs and new points. Front end is off a suzuki 750 of some variety. The speedo cable is not long enough to mount in the usual spot so I am getting a bracket made so i can mount it in a different spot off the front fork just above the indicators. Does anyone have hookups for carb kits? Ripco just quoted me $150 incl gst for one.

yea im still not sure on the seat, its a little uncomfortable as it was built for a short ass and im 5,8. back seat is as comfy as a lazyboy. The headlights are just some spotlights i pinched off a mates van. Priced up a custom style single unit on trade me but trying not to spend too much money on it untill i know if I love it or hate it

My old man brought it to do up as he couldnt ride bikes anymore due to a stuffed elbow, which is now fine and hes brought a harley so I have been given this. When I got it there were alot of things to sort, but have since replaced master and wheel cylinders,repaired loom, fitted crappy headlights, indicators and a new exhaust as the one on there was full of holes. Its been through allot of hands since then so there are allot of rangi mods that need sorting. Plan is get it legal and play with it and see if its my cup of cake or not. I need to sort the last few things pretty smartly as the wife and I are having our first kid in a month. All i need to do is sort a speedo and get it running properly. has new leads and just fitted new points. Volkswagon is a new language to me. Will keep posting updates as things happen

Finally got it fixed, swapped over spark plug leads with the escort and problems gone. Just going to put up a project thread now

no rocker covers are on. I have not had a chance as im crook as today.

Inlet manifold is bolted on tight so no air leaks there. one plug is wet with a mix of oil and petrol? I have not yet checked for sticking valves

back fired, the only thing borg has suggested I have not tried is the valves, i will Have a look at them tomorrow as I have the day off work.

motor in question is 1300 aircooled. the firing order and timing is correct as per the haynes manual I got with the thing (only has 3 wheels so its a thing). Would it indicate replacing dizzy cap?

Firing order is correct, what do you mean by one side is pushing the other?

A few months ago I was given a VW engined beast that is not too far away from being on the road (which is when the thread with pictures will be put up). Its a 1300 aircooled. I have just pulled the carb apart for a good clean as it was leaking (still is, any one got hookups for carb kits?) and now it is running barely but has a very different symptom. It seems to be running on all 4 but the exhaust manifold on the left does not get hot, while the right gets to normal temprature. everything seems to be firing correctly and they are all sparking. this has me stumped. its not running at low revs and when running at half throttle sounds like its running normally apart from a hole in the exhaust. Any one have any ideas? oh yea its also missing one wheel

I am slowly getting back into the escort, the body is going to take a while as I am still learning to weld, but i have the doors and boot lid finished, am i best to primer them and leave for another year, or paint them now? If im best tp paint it now what paint should i use?

Oh crap, i too need 8. Do you know if any other fords used them? I took them to ford here and they had never seen them.

They are a closed end nut which has a attached washer that is loose, but cannot come off. I left 2 of them at repco here in town for a few days and they couldnt find anything. Will get a picture next time im in the shed

I have had a look on the serach and have been unable to find anything but where could i source some mk2 escort ghia wheelnuts? Tried all the usual places ripco, ford , supercheap and have been unable to source any. Im putting ghia rims on my mk1, have 2 of them on allready but need 2 more
