Dare i say it...Diesel Timing!

^ this/top fail.  more boost in diesel is usually pointless,  unless crank more fuel into it.

more fuel will increase boost to a point. but is going to depend on the turbo.  a factory internal gated seup will likely boost up without more fuel.  else it wouldn't run a waste gate.

our t42 runs truck style. massive twin scroll  ht18 exhaust housing.  threw away the actuator and welded the waste gate.  runs about 1 bar.  egt's max out at about 550c pre turbo.     would have to run a gated setup if went to a smaller exhaust side.

Ideally you should look for a higher pressure relief, but if you have reasonable boost control it's probably safe enough to cap it off...

it's a bit difficult to say "how much" boost you can run safely without monitoring EGT's  I have a commonrail 4D56T which i now run at 18 psi, factory boost is around 13-14psi on my ute.

wat

The pump has no way to restrict boost, turbo ain't gonna give any fucks how much fuel is going in there. Lots of boost is fine for diesel, the more the merrier when it comes to mashing air in there. Adjust boost to where it's getting out of the maps efficiency, whack an EGT gauge on there and adjust fuel to suit.

Not really true dude

Couple mates have fucked with external gates/springs 3 inch straight through exhausts etc...

Maxed out at 20 psi wind up the pump and boom 30+ psi even couple of pound at idle haha, also helps with egt,why you think those yankee truck pull beast blow clouds of black smoke??

Also have been looking at a stage 1 ecu for my wagon and all it basiclly does is up the fuel so its seems like it does restrict boost to me...

uterus is correct in the sense that the pump doesn't restrict boost at all,

other than failing to supply adequate fuelling to get the combustion to a level where the turbo is at its most efficient.

more fuel will give higher egts and egts over a certain point will eat pistons rods blocks,

diesel can be somewhat counterintuitive to a petrol head where a rich mix is safe for petrol it is the opposite for diesel,

run lean with a diesel and you will be down on power but the egts stay very low.

get an auberin egt gauge in there and have a look at your temps before you tune.

certain engines won't handle high egts (1hz etc) due to thin piston crowns

Yeah i know what you guys are saying and a diesel specialist will tell you not to mess with the pump, but its something that needed to be done to get more boost.

Forgot to mention to the motors im talking about run bigger than factory turbos so they sort i need more go go juice, but man they spool hard and sound pretty cool too.

I have the same engine as the op. 4d56t.

I want to up the boost and fuel.

But it's got that releaf valve on the inlet.

Should I just plug it?

Engine has just been freshened, how much boost should I run?

change overboost bov for a bung.

do away with all egr gear if it has any

maybe look to a turbo upgrade.

wind some more fuel in.

I would stay around 14psi tops without an intercooler
