lowlancer
What does the revving do? Is the cam outta whack now? Probably wouldn't start though. Maybe over/under tensioned?
WildPlumDx
nah revving out outta whack as such i just doesnt wanna idle is all and as for tensioner i just let the spring do the work i didnt make it tighter or losser just whateva the spring does, ive done this on my cars too and never had any issues
Abarth
Does the engine power feel flat when driving? I was a tooth out on my twin cam and it had those symptoms, maybe you want to double check the timing?
johnnyfive
+1 on double checking timing. Doubt it would run at all if it had any damage.
eskynut
The idea behind idling fast at 3000rpm then normal idle for at least 3mins is to reset ecu if battery has been removed. If this not done it can make engine stall. If it's running rough more than likely its done something else. It doesn't take much to damage a valve face. WildPlumDx
yeah well the battery that was in it went dead so maybe thats whats happened, might have to double check timing, guna be fun if it is out fwd are gay as to get to compared to rwd
sholdowa
If it's rough on idle, but ok at higher revs are you sure the valves aren't slightly bent?
DavidTheCreator
must have done some damage to the valves if it isnt a non interferance (SP) motor and you have those problems. maybe its time for the head to come off?
WildPlumDx
yeah think u could be right bugger really dont have the time for it off to the mechanic it goes!

sentra
do you have a compression tester? youd get ontop of this in like 40seconds fuckin bam there like 80 bucks for an optitech one fom memory from repco
fuel
or $40 for a semi-decent one from supercheap which will do the job just fine. usually if it bends valves it'll bend at least half of them, and it'll run really rough on 2 cylinders right through the rev range. If it's not bent valves then it's probably a tooth out in timing. Did you get that manual I e-mailed you? I got no reply after I e-mailed it so I don't know if you got it or not.. it was a large file being sent to your hotmail account so I wasn't sure it would get through. WildPlumDx
yeah i got it thanks for that heaps! yeah nah it doesnt run ruff like seems fine just doesnt wanna idle or it will idle at 1100 rpm then touch the trottle and it will just drop out and die has trouble starting too but yeah it sounds all good just doesnt wanna know about idling i have a compression tester but it doesnt get down those big spark plug holes so must have a look for one on a pipe tube thing
Unclejake
do you have a compression tester? youd get ontop of this in like 40seconds fuckin bam If the cam belt was replaced a tooth or so out the compression tester will give strange results too. Abarth
Ring gates or someone and ask if its an interference engine. Good chance being SOHC that is a non interference engine. edit: and check for vacuum leaks.
fuel
no it's definitely an interference engine. All multivalve Mitsubishi engines are (unless it's a MIVEC on low-speed cam). Only ones that aren't are the SOHC 8V models, but even so the 4G13/4G15 SOHC 8V is interference still. The hard starting suggest that it's a tooth out.
