shizzl
right...the escorts sitting here doing nothing,im doing nothing on it,contemplating what to do on it next and when.. kinda thinking of binning the current pedal box and brake setup. will either go with a palmside style pedal box.or a flashy wilwood triple master box. but doing that to stock brakes is just a waste of time,so i wanna know the easiest way to get vented discs on the front.. or are there any 5 stud hubs from anything that will bolt on?was told a rumor that zephyr hubs bolt on?just a rumor but would be nice to get 5stud up front. was looking at doing the rn20 hilux diff in the back seeing its really simple, and disc conversions on diffs arent too hard.. so main question is-are there 5 stud hubs from others cars that will bolt on?? or what are your recommendations
Gaz
Check the tech articals thread for articals on the diff and the hubs. Also make your own pedalbox, its not worth buying one. (see below) Also why not just run the standard brake booster? I think they fit with a 12a, depending on where its mounted.
Gaz
Ahh fuck cant be arsed doing that again.. What a waste of fucking time!
crazy_rich
Mk2/3 zephyr hubs go straight onto capri struts & keep the offset similar., not sure about 1&4. I've talked to a guy who put some onto mk 1 escort struts with a sleeve made for the stub axle. I've put XD falcon hubs onto the capri as they bought the mounting face in so i can run wheels with more dish. the outer bearing is the same part as the outer capri bearing and the inner one needed recessed and sleeved. and everyone knows capri struts are a good upgrade for escorts. problem now is finding all the parts everyone else needs. good luck dude
Cobranz
hey if ya gonna put zephyr brakes on, make sure u can get parts first, just rebuilt a mk3 zephyr disks and had to get custom made pistons and modified pads and all new seals and it wasnt cheap. shizzl
just got a phone call from a guy whos got 5 stud fronts on his escort.he actually just got his escort hubs drilled for 5 stud.maybe easier and cheaper to do that..
Gaz
Prob not. But just out of interest tell us the quotes you get.
sholdowa
If you just want to go vented, then the capri 2.8i disks fit straight on. Spacer for the caliper, and you're away. Personally, I don't bother with 4 pots - the Princess option just adds too much to the unsprung weight. Standard ones'll stop you fine - especially in conjunction with 9 inch drums on the back. QCADTA
is this setup for the 10A? or are you going to sell it again? Why not get the engine in and going and work on the brakes from there. vented capri disks with volvo/mazda calipers would be ample. how much hp are you expecting out of ya engine? hilux diff might be a bit overkill, and if you want a rn 10-25 diff youd better start lookin now. crazy_rich
to drill 4x108 to 5x114.3 u'd have to plug or weld a hole. welding SG type cast iron is a complete no no and im not too sure on the legality of plugging on the hub mounting face. be interesting to hear how you get on. eskynut
If your using a hilux rear end why not use hiace front hubs? Shouldn't b too hard to suss out bearings to suit or even get new stub put on strut to suit hub. Just a thought.
mk2_escort
yea i plan to do the capri ventilated disks and spacers on the callipers shortly after my car gets on the road. and im also looking at doing a hilux lsd rear end conversion. mates dad said hed do it all and shorten it for couple hundy + price of diff which will be a couple of hundy he recon. (stock car guys, seem to know everyone and can get their hands on anything)
d.p.n.s
hi mate in my opinion man unless your making shit loads of power the cheapist way is to just leave the mk2 set up on the front and use 9"drums on the rear like what sholdowa said. ive had plenty of 2.0 escorts and a few that made mean power and the brakes have worked a treat. and if you just want 5 studs try getting them drilled or hub adaptors cheers dan
filthy one
mate you wont get cert if ya get ya cast hubs drilled i tried!! Zephyer hubs bolt straight onto mk1 cortinas & so do mk3 cortina calipers I've also got a mate who did this exact same thing to a mk2 esky so I don't doubt they will fit hub adapters are an option but then you arse up your offset . I have these also more of a spacer on my bitch 5x114.5 to 5x114.5 15mm on the front & 20mm on the rear {needed as the rims are jap offset {but they were fukn cheap } theres heaps of options brother I got to agree with the others man get it running & see what the factory brakes are like. My next door neighbours got a drummed anglia with mad 2l in it & it stops better then my wagon
shizzl
i know the factory brakes are shit house.i drove it from dunners to here,6 hour drive..over hills and down steep grades, through the nicest twisting sections in nz.. it handled like a rolly polly slug...brakes were well less than desirable... eskynut
I got sum princess 4 pots that I'm probably not going to use. pm me if you're interested.
Gaz
Then there is something wrong with them. Standard mk2 discs and calipers are mint. If ya not happy go with 4pots for that extra stopping power. If they are then overheating go ventilated discs. Vented discs dont make the brakes any better, just stop them overheating. Also.. cortina and escort have differant width discs just to note. Well theres ya first problem, if it handled like a rolly polly slug id be lookin at new shocks, bushes etc, if it handles like shit itll stop like shit too. Then look at ya brakes, as others have said theres nothing wrong with mk2 brakes.
mk2_escort
heres a 3 step guide to improve you're brakes and keep them standard. 1 - get you're rotors machined/re-faced. $25 2 - buy a calliper seal kit from repco (or otherwise, cheap as chips) and take the callipers apart. its all fairly straight foward, the most common problem with escort callipers is 1 of the pistons almost seizing up. you need compressed air to blow the pistons out each side. then just take out the old seals and chuck in the new ones. $60 (ish) 3 - some new brake pads. $$ after this you will need to bleed the brakes and new brake fluid. you should be able to do it all for under $150 and you will have nice fresh brakes that you can have peice of mind are working properly and effectively. also take the rear drums apart and clean them out and check everything etc. mint. Raizer
Seal kits are about $15 per caliper from BNT if you get a trade discount, make sure the pistons etc aren't pitted to fuck too. As said mk2 escort brakes are mean for a stock set up! My van stopped better than my old Famillia
