Yeah Gaz im a engine reconditioner at Caraid in Christchurch. Ill get some photo's and info on the mk1 up soon, i orginally had a 1600 xflow efi turbo in it. Its a little rough as i built it up aboat five years ago. I have now decied to to put a Ca18det in it for reliability.

Oh the mk1 looks good too. Just need to ditch the rims for some nice dishy ones

That kent turbo setup looks good, turbo sits nice up there, did it heat the bonnet up much?

How far through putting the CA into the mk1 are you? I am also doing a ca into a mk1 escort, well, about to get started, have everything now. The ca is an awsome engine, can get 200kw@rims with no trouble and minimal costs without opening em up.

":14ulmwp5]looking good brendin. will have to come and check that mk1 out sometime... did you still have those 13" wheels off the mk2? keen to do some trading for those :D

Hi karl got your text the other day, got no money on the cell. Still keen as to swap those wheels for interior parts. Cheers

Impressive stuff Bean.

I am pretty interested in your custom made pushrods. Did you happen to weigh one before they got fited?

Well done - and good taste :D

No sorry i didn't bother to weigh them. I would of thought they may of been a fair bit heavier than std though, was thinking of finding a after market V8 push rod as they are made of good material and just aboat come in every lenth you would want. Cheers

Thought you might say that about the wheels, lol

Yeah you could fry a egg on the bonnet. Got abit more info up tonight ,starting to get a little better at typing never done so much. Great minds think alike Ca18 kick arse. Just going to run it std for awhile but i already have just aboat enough parts to start building a CA20det wanting good hp out of it just lacking cash and theres only so much my work account can take. Cheers

I'd almost agree with that, purely on looks alone. That thing looks awesome all cleaned up with those nice manifolds, plenum and the huge turbo.

Though going with a newer, factory turbo engine for reliability is a good concept. You can't really go past that fact.

I'm not sure a CA18DET is an amazingly strong engine, but I really like the idea of building a bullet proof CA20 block for it and going from there. Will be a good little engine and hopefully the numbers and reliability may even show up an equally worked SR20.

Ca18det is a strong as engine, over engineered as most Nissan engines tend to be. Huge cradle in them and thick castings. The prob with the Ca20's is that the rods dont really stand up to turbo applications/hp. Im sure Bean has this sussed and prob isnt even using the standard rods lol.

Not sure however if the extra work involved is worth it shen SR's are on the market. Guess ya do get a stronger block and no rocker problems. Unsure on head flow, bore/stroke ratios etc. Ca20's I guess can be made pretty cheap apart from the rods.

My 5c

Yeah early cortinas have put a twinkle in my eye for a while now, some say it's a sickness but we know better. Good to see a cortina done to that standard. Im shore you will be reponsable for them becoming more popular. Good shit.

Thinking of running a different crank aswell, wisco 85mm pistons, prob 4g63 eagle rods

The Kent turbo was a beast but the more power i wanted out of it, the more japanes parts ended up in it or on it. I have only gestimated that it may of made 200hp or close to it, but with a real tune and a little more development i think it would of made a bit more than that. My main issue was going to be the gear box and clutch with more power. I was always going to be limited at the end of the day by them. But im glad i spent the time to do the Kent turbo and im hoping the guy that bought it is going to get it up and running, ive been keeping eye out.
