Raizer
With the $ involved buying a BDA you could just about build a BDT
escort mk1
Whats a BDT? Reallyl i just want to build a fast 1600 and keep it a original escort engine. Whats the best engine to go for?
Raizer
The BDT engine was built for the failed RS1700T MK3 Escort group B rally car and ended up being used in the RS200. Its basically a 1800 turbo BDA, 250HP in street trim, and between 350 and 450HP in the rally cars. Personally i would (and did ) build up a 1700 crossflow (83.5mm bore) with a large "road/rally cam - Kent 234 or similar, decent port job and a pair of Webber/Dellorto 40s

davidian
$$ is not worth it except for the wow factor. go newer. go turbo
mikuni
Nah, build a nice high revving modern NA engine. Ford have some cool motors around that you could use from what I have seen. For literally a fraction of the price you can have something that will be faster, more reliable and sound great. You won't have the old technology of the BDA, thats the only draw back. If you won't that you will have to spend the dollars. There no way around it. And the final product won't be as usable as with a newer motor. davidian
you could get a full race pinto for a fraction even. Id go for a duratec worked or even non-ford
nismo.capri
You better have really deep pockets BDA = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ http://www.wilcoxengines.demon.co.uk/ Alloy block, steel N/J lightweight crank, H section steel con rods, forged pistons, steel flywheel, twin paddle clutch, dry sump pump and pan, big valve head, latest spec cam carrier, 48 Weber carbs, air filter, electronic ignition kit and plug lead set. Fully assembled and dyno tested. £16750 (NZ$47,763) Complete engine kits : 2.0L kit Alloy block: £14900 (NZ$42,483) 1.6L kit steel block: £ 12600.00 (NZ$35,925) The good news is the conversion kit is cheaper.... BDR kits now available to convert your Ford Crossflow into a 1700cc 160bhp/170bhp engine: £7400 (NZ$21,089)
Bullitt
Those prices dont work too well...why not buy the conversion kit, rebuild all the remaining bits of a kent and sell it for somewhere under 35k...seems like easy money
Raizer
It would be cheaper to get all the bits from Burton's rather than Wilcox
mk5corty
2.3 duratec ftw if powerful N/A is what your after, 250hp can be had out of a streetable motor.
CUL8R
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 770498.htm That one of them?? Cheers,Chris
mk5corty
thats an american turbo pinto. http://www.cosworth.com/shop_item.php?productid=426 there is the cosworth 250hp version but bear in mind that price is for all new parts and would be designed to last for a standard engines life. you could do nearly as well for much cheaper, like most modified engines.
