zep
As topic states. Yesterday, I fully ran out of gas, comming to a stop. Figured all that out and got a full tank. She was running sweet last night, but today, oh it's another story. Backfiring like what, no power, black smoke, it's horrid. Any ideas what might have gone wrong? I just had a tune up like a month ago. cheers guys.
Mr.Mk1
Yea, this happened in the scort once... it was water in the carb from the very bottom of the fuel tank. i think i took the carb apart and cleaned it, it went much better. Other than that, praps just give it time to get all the water through the sistem/sink to the bottom again.

Jerm
yeha with old cars you are not meant to run the fuel to low cos there is alot of build up of shit in the bottem of the tank over the years.. cos you ran right out leon it would have all gone into the lines... Toucan
Haha what a coincidance, same thing happened to me last friday night, rolled through an intersection an into a mobile an stopped right beside the pump I filled it up and it was fine, though my tank was cleaned out not long ago so there shouldnt of been any crap in there. I got told that you foul up your spark plugs if you fully run outa gas??? Havn't had a chance to check mine yet but its running sweet so maybe thats all a load of bull*hit. zep
Might take a look at the spark plugs on the weekend. It's running smooth again now, so that's good. I think all the crap went right through the system, although my fuel filter is looking a bit dingy. Will replace it with the new one when I can find the hose clamp we have lying around here somewhere.
510WGN
yea its a thing u add to ur tank every so often. it gets rid of grim and dirt and shit like that. its from repco and is about $18 bucks. ill get the name of it wen i go to my car.. Ummm, how is some additive going to remove dirt and shit from your tank?!? What a rip off! From a mechanics point of view, the ONLY way you can remove the dirt is by sucking it through the fuel system when the tank runs low (NOT RECOMMENDED!) or by removing the tank and cleaning it out. si
it dissolves the gunk basically
Guest escort_boy
yea thats wat it does. but if u want the proper clean u will ahve to do it properly
510WGN
But you can't dissolve dirt! All I can see it doing is breaking the dirt up and send it through the filter - blocking that up!
lowlancer
Wee clearly it either does or doesnt work, highly doubtful it woukd make it worse by blocking the filter. My guess is it does a temporary botch up rangi job.
BigDave
If you run an inline filter and get water trapped in it then just upbolt the banjo fittings and blow throw it, hey presto its water free again. Shit is another matter though, best fit a new one. That tank cleaner sounds dodgy to me also. Even if it breaks the shit down it still has to go some place, that place being into the fuel and eventually through your carbs or injectors. Best bet is to remove the tank and flush it out, maybe that is what its for??
510WGN
About time somebody actually believes the mechanic!!
BigDave
I'm with you mate!! A lot of this stuff that they sell in Repco and places is a load of bollox anyway. There is no magic way to get rid of shit, it has to be phyically removed.
510WGN
Yeah man, next thing they'll be telling us that Motor Up actually DOES work! "It gave me SOOO much more power! My engine was worn out till I added this stuff to my oil!" YEAH RIGHT!
