Leaks!? And other Escort Questions

Toucan

Recommended Posts

So i wanted to know why my carpet was rotting, so i pulled it out. Turns out my escort leaks.

I was talking to some dude who used to own one and he said he had the same problem and apparently all escorts leak.

It comes in from i dont know where and ends up in the front footwells. Anyone know how to go about fixing it?

By the way its a mk2 4door. Cheers.

Holy crap. And I thought it was just me.

I took out the carpet one day and me and a mate ran water over the car for 10min but with no success. Did some prodding around and looks like maybe someone has tried to fix the problem before i had it by putting that sealent stuff arounf the edges of the dash on the underside (hard to explain). Mine generally only leaks heavily during heavy rains, and so my carpet is now rooted on the drivers side :(.

So yea, any help would also be appreciated over here :).

And btw, also check your boot, mine leaks and sometimes pools up where the spare tire sits and also under the fuel tank. Easily solved that by making a couple holes to let the water drain out.

edit/ kyteler bet me. will look over that on mine during the weekend, cheers bro. :D

If your boots leaking it may just be the boot rubber seal, seeing as it IS leaking, take off the rubber seal around the boot and see if there's rust on the metal fold that the seal sits on, if there is... stink ass, get it fixed now.

Also, if the join for your boot seal is at the top of the boot instead of near the latch, then whip it off and put it back on with the join (where the two end bits meet it probably isnt physically joined) at the latch.

Have a look around the windscreen seal, might be getting in there.

I'm also getting leaks in my gem, when there's heavy rain I get drips comming from under the dash onto my feet, I can't find the problem either :S

Yea i did the same as Bistro - capret out in the car while it got hosed. I have put sealant around the heater hoses, under the fusebox, and also made a cover over the gromet below the fusebox because the gromet wasnt sealing properly, oh yea and i flushed out the drainage hole to make sure there was no overflow although it did seem alright.

And yea not too much luck with the hose but after a night of hard rain i can get out 1/2 litre of water sometimes :(

Boot doesnt get more than a few drops but i'll look into it anyway.

mine dosen't leak.. but it did and the tire well is rusted out.... it was because you know the plastic stripes on the side of the car... well a couple of the rivets had come out leaving holes... and the water gets int here.........

Get a gromet or plug from hammer hardware or some shit. Punch a Pin-hole sized hole in the centre of the plug and feed the wire through, you want it to be hard to push through so that it creates a nice seal for extra assurance I'd put a bit of silicone on and around the hole as well.

just buy a bucket and put it under where it drips from

fuck now thats logic. sounds like something i would do. the b-unit leaks everywhere. one of the main ones was because i was missing a piece of the floor (who knew) but my other one was windscreen seals so check that one out coz it was a bitch.

dude, there is no "old fuel" anymore... 91 unleaded used to be the "new fuel" then they phased out all the leaded fuel, and 96 was the gay ass replacement for the leaded fuel, even though the modern unleaded fuel creates more toxins and pollutants and is worse for the planet than the old stuff  damn government morons.
