If anyone wants to have a play with this spreadsheet here's the link - if someone who can drive Excel wants to tidy it up that would be awesome. https://bit.ly/Idontevenownaleaf

The 2.7 is a 60/40 mix of around town and open road, full open road might be closer to 3.1. I'll PM you the link tomorrow, it's on my work computer.

Do you want a spreadsheet to do your own figures? A Leaf will pretty much dominate fuel economy - but you'd need a $30,000 Leaf to cover that distance comfortably unless you can charge at work. Little bro bought a Note E-Power for $11k so that's where that pricing comes from

Pre-ran the first half of day 3 today combined with a shakedown run for the NBC. Front brakes gained a whole heap of power over the day which was reassuring. I also managed to lose a rear axle nut at 80km/h. Shopping list for this week is sundry Nylocs and a beer to drop off at the guy from Tadmor who let me rummage in his spare nuts. Some pretty cool new gravel, Sunday Creek Road will be a bit of a treat. Managed to score a passenger ride with @mattj competing in a gravel track race. Sorry about the ballast. Dropped into see @ThePog too, confirmed Day 2 will have a bonus 115km for me. Sounds like the Maungatapu and Braeburn are running well if a little rocky. Fizzing....

I was going to run a big 2.5kW inverter off a car as an emergency back up charger, but it looked a bit industrial with 12mm leads... I ended out just driving at a constant 60km/h on the flat and hills (pulling over as soon as anyone came up behind) and maximum coast down the Whangamoas (interesting at 44psi, but it handles really nicely) . Arrived in town with 35 km of range.

Kind of thread relevant, I'm helping a mate hyper mile a low SOH Nissan Leaf today to help get it from Blenheim to Nelson... Tyres to 50psi...drafting etc on the cards.

Semi ling/ I've done lost PLA casting with plaster which we burnt off in a furnace, apart from ~10% shrinkage with the aluminium it worked well.

I imagine @Mof means to St Arnaud, then down the Wairau on the road to Blenheim? -

Great ideas here, here is a ride I did about 12 years ago, it's ~500km total so probably not bad over 3 days, but I'd tweak it with @Pee Dubs sounds ideas. https://www.wikiloc.com/trail-bike-trails/20091114-seven-summits-ride-89525114 -
Does this mean that @ajg193 will be into it? So confusing....

@terceldude https://photos.app.goo.gl/MBY81UZp6TmNbJya9 Here is a NZ new one that I spotted this year. The owner is local and has had it from new, her grandchildren go to the same school as my kids. If I see her around I'll ask her on your behalf.

The Maungatapu is a little gnarlier than that, but it still looks a lot more comfy than @Chunky_ts ride! -

Yeah I'd love to see a twist and go at this event, but it probably needs to be capable of an 80km/h cruising speed. Last year the slowest bikes appeared to be new Honda Monkey 125s (they were fine, but pretty consistent). I want something for this event, last year I rode/cheated on a WR250R. If someone has anything interesting, road legal, <200cc and is interested in a running/reg on hold 1983 Honda FT500, hit me up. -

I have a possible top of the south island loop planned for a future ride that includes these plus quite a few other adventures, we'll see what the appetite is post Molesworth 2022.
