  1. Just throw them on the back and sort them out over there? Those look ace.
  2. Probably depends where you are. I use north shore metals in rosedale. They have offcuts and etc of bar stock but dont cut sheet steel on site. The ususly have some half sheets tho. I think a full sheet (1200x2400) of ~1mm zintec was $45 or so last time i got one.
  3. Stupid back shit man, I compressed my spine about 10 years ago (hit the bottom surfing) and it gives me the gyp if I push too hard doing stuff that tweaks it etc (like surfing, sitting, lying down, standing up, excersize, doing garage stuff etc), but its manageable. Worst part is it makes me cranky, not just because its sore and achy but because doing stuff i like to do makes it sore. That xray looks bung, and as your medical professional I recommend doing a cut and shut from the parts body. Get well soon big guy
  4. Meanwhile i also bought a dish, some nylon plumbing fittings, vinyl hose and an electric tap + pump. With all that and a pile of left over materials, and a basic idea of form i came up with this A small storage shelf, and everything mocked up. I couldnt find any stainless bowls in my (very low) price range that looked likley so ended up with this bluey enamel baking tray. What a flipping mission to drill through the enamel for a plughole with a holesaw - blunted two of my cheap shitty set - ended up wazzing it with the jigsaw, and ended up dropping it and chipping the edge. I was looking out for some cheap (retro) formica for the bench top on trademe, but In keeping with the low budget build, i remembered i had this left ally sheet over from the big 'sign of the times' trailer, with a bonus factory smooth edge and fold. All pooped up and screwed on. Needs a going over with a scotch pad on a grinder to polish it up a bit but pretty happy with how it tuned out. And in, plus the inverter (laptop charger) 20l Water tank and pump ready to be plumbed up (need 2m of 10mm ID vinyl hose) , plug waste exits via the old ash tray hole. With the coolant lines and ducting it was a hell of a fishing exercise to get the 20mmID pipe out of teh factory hole on the inside of the sill. Its just hanging there like all the old vans as we only use the sink for teeth brushing, hand wash and the mrs to do her contacts, but there is a lot of room under the floor for a waste tank to be installed, or pop a bucket under if required. And added a bit of an electrical board to better keep track of my addons, should make it easy to install solar in the future too. This battery is a bit dead too (pretty new looking base model Bosch, but wont hold a charge above 12.5v ) , so when the old van sells ill splash out on a fancy new one Still no boost gauge installed.
  5. Still got the old one, hopefully a dude will be buying it this week, hopefully. Showing off a few features in the new van, Rear Air con, makes the rear area like a fridge in about 3 minutes flat, looked into pulling it out but its got hard lines in the B pillar and it works really well, so, it can stay. There is room in the maaasive roof box thing for storage cubbies and stuff (whole thing could have been designed about 6 inches closer to the roof) so i may do something with that, as its fibreglass its pretty strong and easy to mess with. The holes above the head area from these sweet looking but probably a bit shit Pioneer TS -TRX60, one 6.5" driver, and one passive cone and a tweeter. They sounded a bit poo before i pulled them and the old head unit out, but they are also missing the back half of their boxes that would have made them into a trapezoidal sub box style shape, and sealed them up and made the passive driver work. Ill see how they fit behind the seats in the Ute and might try remake a box from ply. Love the text TS-TRX60 MAX INPUT150W OPTIMUM BASS PERFORMANCE SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR PICKUP TRUCKS Heater in the rear as well, this thing appears to run off a coolant loop that threads though the sills, have not tried it out in anger yet but fan blows and its warm. Thats also the spot for the sink, so it needed a lot of pondering time to make it all fit and work Hmmmmm...
  6. So, so good. Well done man
  7. Not fitted the boot gauge yet, but ive made and fitted curtains, insulated and boarded the floor, and made the bed. Guy I bought the van off gave me a coupe of sheet of ply that used to be in the back and a few more offcuts as well, as well as the ply i took off interior ladder rack thing I also had some 32mm ply offcuts from an art week project i helped me ol' mate with, and most of the soft materials (curtains and insulation and foam, mattress) i already had, so this has been built for 'free' so far but i did have to buy more screws. Nice to use some hoarded shit up and make some room. Blank canvas with so much room for activities. Internal roof racks are from the PO - Guy had it set up for carrying a ladder Also covered over the brown chip board lining where it would be seen with check vinyl. Underfloor insulation - not sure how much difference this will make but cant hurt. 6x9s in too, same position as old van These 5mm odd sized MDF sheets were $5 at M10. Should be enough to stop my patella twisting off in one of the floor channels and stop the insulation rpping as well as providing some sound deadening and insulation too. Especially with a layer of fatigue foam on top, then the factory vinyl floor and some more foam under the last of the check vinyl. Much cosier too. Our last vans had house carpet on the rear floors, i think this will be a bit easier to keep clean and no less warm, especially with the fancy head liner, and we can always throw down a rug, or put in some underlay Made the bed, design was kinda dictated by the wood i had, but it tuned out really good. The sides are fixed, (but with only 4 screws per side) and very solid being made from 22mm ply, and the middle (17mm ply + 32mmply x 70mm cross members) is in two halves, So, they can be rotated and sat on the floor to do van stuff, OR put in place to make the bed platform and do caravan stuff. These are fixed to the fixed sides with 4 screws in the middle seam to stop them levering out when i sit on the end of the bed - the whole thing stiffens up the whole van like a cross brace And im pooped, so test lie down completed successfully! Now to the sink. And boost gauge.
  8. What a mission, and in a field find city car too. Top FIATing! Or is it a Zavasta or FSO?
  9. Back firing is indicative of a lean condition. But also too much advance. And your sure that new cam is lined up right? Does it run with some throttle at all? Or on the easy start or a squirt of gas in the manifold?
  10. Ive been using this as a daily for the last few months and being auto petrol plus all the junk on it Im getting a bit over satiating its thirst for the dino juice. I needed a more economical solution, and after being on my watch list for a month i noticed that this van was just down the road, so went and had a look. Less kms, less $ to run (i made a spreadsheet), more displacement, more gears, more clutch pedals, more airbags, more diesel, MOAR TURBOS!!! So of course i bought it, gonna chop up the silver one for a manual diesel + T conversion on the white one... Lol such minty. This is the cleanest one yet, v4.0 2006 E25.2 Caravan, ZD30DDTi, Manual. Love the boost. And gears. And diesel clatter. Roll of Honour of previous Holiday Homys: V1.0 1996 E24 Homy TD27, Manual, BHG V2.0 1998 E24 Caravan TD27, Manual, Rust v3.0 2002 E25.1 Caravan, KA24DE, Auto, FOR SALE Bought a boost gauge off @ul9601 before i even collected it HOT Double Van Action Now with most of the good bits swapped over, Looking forwards to fitting this one out. I wish the chrome west coast style mirrors on the old one fitted , but the nose cone is just different enough that they dont quite swap straight over. May make the effort as the new ones fold at high speed and have less visibility. Old one is for sale here: https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1954458950 YOU BUY NOW!! 11. keen, have an older car that works and needs a drive, and a hankering for aoili with my hot buns on a steamy summers eve
  12. I love it, i was actually looking for one of these, but prices were a bit steep (for me) so i ended up with my blue 125, and it was all downhill from there i guess.
  13. Love your work. Hope you are planning on fillling the cavities with lots of... ...Dynatrol
  14. priuses's
  15. Id take a ride in that fake taxi. 5 stars. Proves that anything can look cool with the right rims and some lows
  16. My Innovate cables turned up, and I plugged my lappy in and after faffing with the usb/serial driver stuff my 1960s designed ute talks to a computer. Turns out the gauge and sensor is fine... just needed the main plug jiggled so it fully clicked together and then re calibrated, so yay, but also, good one dick (me). Anyway with it now working I could see what the carb was doing and make changes in an infomed manner instead of flailing. THATS SCIENCE! Turns out the poor idle and bog off idle was a lean condition which is the opposite of what i thought, based on the plugs and exhaust smell, but it runs way better now, so looking forward to using it a bit more. Jetting is now: Primary: Idle 60, main 132, air 150 Secondary: Idle 70, Main 160, air 150 Weber DMS twin choke downdraft on a smokey 1582cc TC. Here is the worlds most boring video, in portrait model of the gauge in action on a cold start just before. Still a bit wobbly on idle but the carb is pretty worn Will do untill i fit my sideys Here is a shot of my two wheelbarrows
  17. Agree. Car should 'run' on almost any carb if everything else is ok. Ignition timing etc ok? If it has a mechanical fuel pump and been sitting for a while it will take some (a lot) of cranking to fill the bowl. Also if your ?acellerator? Pump is not put together propely you are wasting your time. Whip it off and sort it out. While its off recheck everything. Set the idle mixture screw to 2 turns out and the idle speed screw to 1 turn in from just touching. Fill the bowl with about 10mm of gas then put it back on.
  18. Useless local windscreen dudes never showed up, so me and the boy roped it in ourselves. the NZ made ARMOURFLOAT windscreen from the parts stash . Was actually pretty easy, especially with a new rubber and lot of dish soap. Except somehow the spreader trim is shorter now repairs - what repairs? Took it in again on Saturday, and Great Success! After that i dropped off the sidedraft manifold to @EURON8 for him to mod for me, and when i got home i played with the old DMS carb and some new aliexpress idle, air corrector and main jets to fill some holes in my collection. Seems to idle and transition much better now (slightly richer idle and main jet than before) but there is still a big flat spot at low rpm. Been half assedly progressing though the sandpaper grades cutting back my orange peel (sanding suuuuuuuxxxxx) and today i finally polished it. Grrr
  19. Just copy and past the url - the forum software will do the rest. Also, I flipping love shitty old commercials, especially vans*, and looking forward what you do with this. (*im working some irons myself on one in my preferred flavour at the mo)
  20. Hey bowl, no complaints here. I havnt fitted the Weber sideys yet cause the manifold needs some mods. I also want to use the gauge to tune the single carb i have first (some jets for it from aliexpress turned up yesterday). The sensor issue, well that just happens. I was hoping it would work, but also expecting to have to replace the sensor, as they are very fragile and finicky. Postage or kicking around on the floor of my shed, or maybe my ute runs so shit it gummed it up immediately? Actually It now drops out of heater mode, but the gauge just flicks between min 7.2 or max 22.4 AFR. Maybe had a bit of a loose connection initially, and now ive truly fucked it? Im waiting on a serial cable and usb adaptor to arrive to be able to connect up the gauge to my laptop and see what it says/update the firmware/re calibrate it etc.
  21. Guess what? Replacing the windscreen and doing the other things took longer than the weekend + week i anticipated! Rust in the windscreen aperture itself was just surface rust, but there were some other bits i missed or had got worse since last time, and i thought i may as well get them while the screen is out. In another shocker, the Roof/A-Pillar overlap bubbles went a bit deeper than initially appearing Outer patch ready to weld (already welded the patch on the inner skin, obviously) Not quite invisible, but solid metal and invisible/factory after a a skim of filler and some carefully applied seam sealer. Small patch in the drivers side gutter i missed last time And dug the ugly bathroom sealant off the windscreen motor mount to reveal some holes that got much bigger by the time i managed to get tools in the scuttle to cut off the brazing someone had blobbed it on with before. Had to jam a welding glove up under the dash to catch the hedgehogs and molten balls from falling on the carpet! EEEK! Bit of a fiddle to line it up and mark where it needed to fit and then tack it in place but its all solid and water proof now too, and the wipers still work!. Had some trouble with the rattle cans i used truing to keep the bog dry between literal storms But it turned out ok, thinners soaked rag pretty much wiped it right off, and cant tell once i got the 2 part ACV on there Ended up doing the roof, windscreen surround, scuttle tops of the doors and fenders and the sills as well as wafting the left overs at the bonnet. My cheap 1.4mm tip top coat gun is over due for replacement (sprayed 3 cars now! - 1.7mm primer gun seems ok still) so its well tidied up from the patchy look it had before but shes no show truck! Once that dried/it stopped raining i filled the cab gutters and pillers, and up the scuttle from the inside with Dinotrol (+ some Penetrol for luck) , glued up the headliner and blacked out a few bits and pieces. The windscreen i chose from storage (turns out i had 2!) is a NZ made one AUTOFLOAT with the NZS mark on it, and no chips. Thats now sitting in the hole in a brand new LadaPower sourced 2102 rubber waiting for the local glass cowboys to rope it in for me and install the spreader trim (i flippin hate windscreens - i cracked the old one even more popping it out and i dont want to crack this one)
  22. Looks like ive been quadruple booked on Fridey and Satdey and as well am unlikley to have a classic car (or hotrod) in drivable condition for sleep overs Stupid work and rain. Will probably roll in on saturday arvo ish for a poke around the dregs of the swap meet cause i need a gutter mount aerial, plus some other stuff that i will only know when i see it...
  23. Took this in for a WoF today in prep for Kumeu, left it at the place in the carpark pretty early and it FAILED - to be fair the windscreen had a long crack from a stone chip that ran, but i was hoping they would let that annoyance happen on the way home after i got my sticker However given it actually happened a few months ago I had already bought a new screen rubber and some scuttle corner repair panels from ladapower to go with a spare screen i already had 'in stock'. . Got home and popped out the old screen expecting the worst but its its not too bad at all. Passenger side is lush - there are a few bubbles where the rubber had worn the paint thin, but i think they will buff out. The brown stuff is old hard cavity wax Usually the hole around the drain tube blows out but its mint Bit worse on the drivers but not bad really, the rust is just surface stuff. Amazeballs The worst bit is from the massive hole seemingly made with a big nail right though all 4 layers of steel in base of the toothpick A-pillar for a FM aerial that i wont be reinstalling. The top of the pillar is also affected by the hole for the upper mount and those bubbles on the roof panel overlap will need cutting out and welding So this weekend will be spent cleaning up the surround and prepping the roof and scuttle for a coat of paint or two in time to get the screen in and Woffed in time for next weekend. I knew it needed to be done and was planning on it, just didn't want to do it like right now, in the flippin driveway. Lucky it looks fine for most of the next week or so!
  24. Cor.... giz! bring to Kumeu for OS 'easy weekend project' using parts found in swap meet treasure hunt
  25. Shuddup and take my money! Boss level work.
