Could depend how much distance you need from the ball to the flat section. Could cut a flat bit of plate so it's a nice tight fit around the shaft below the ball. A U shape piece, if the thickness allowed, that might be strong enough to be the tongue. Could always weld more plate on the sides under the plate when installed and rack is level. Could still slip it off when not in use. But when in use it uses the force of the bolts to hold it all together. Shouldn't be able to move as it will be jammed against the whole diameter of the bar.

I have a similar, but not quite as bad problem. The tongue on mine is minimal around the back of the ball. So if my rack doesn't work i'm just going to make a small metal plate in a donut shape and bolt it between the ball and tongue. Same sort of solution to the above, but my plate won't need to be as thick as it's supported.

This is 100% my thinking.  Except the use of a U-shape would be easier, I was thinking 2x half moons.

  2. Hi All

I've been scratching my head for a solution to fit one of the 'standard' bike racks to a Euro swan neck tow ball

I know of the options to swap the ball hitch and/or the bike rack but neither are cheap and I have this combo already sitting around.  The bike rack connection works by forcing down on the bar tongue and since none is there for euro style it doesnt work.  I'm thinking the solution might be to fab a removable collar to fit around the ball to take the job of the tongue.  Anyone done this or seen similar?

    i.e.

Need to neutralise the acid, I've had the same thing just using vinegar, need to wash it in baking soda or something. I would imagine there is something similar for phosphoric acid?

Do the opposite, leave the residue (iron phosphate ) on to prevent the oxidation and then rough sand the panel back just prior to paint.

Does option B cover some Taieri Gorge railway ? Edit, both look like they do, keen for railway fizzing !!

Not really.... There is only one road which comes close to the rail in the gorge, its just a crossing and road out there is gravel.  See https://offthemainroadnz.com/2017/04/21/hindon/

But the road goes through a part of a gorge near there so somewhat similar country - its a good drive.

Cool, exec decision...  We're going to go for the afternoon of Sat the 8th July.  We could take a short car run round George King Memorial Drive, then across the Taieri to go over Saddle Hill road before back to my place for some beers, BBQ and yarns - something super low key.

    Attendance potentially...

We may be thin on the ground with OS cars (myself included) but have 2x options for route (views welcome), or just go for a BBQ/yarns....

Fuck Youshop and their criminal pricing.

I use fishisfast for the same purpose, great price and the last time I used them. The proudly and rightfully let me know they packaged and processed my stuff for collecting in 18 minutes of me paying them.

I'm going to try that next time... was astonished at my last youshop bill

there was an accident recently which involved a car with a declaration, which did not match- it had been modified further after the declaration

there was some rumours that NZTA wanted to make declarations void after that, but i dont think anything happened, apart from this

    Inspection news (nzta.govt.nz)

The guy on the phone was very clear that there can be no further modifications to what was listed on the sheet.

A friend was able to do something similar recently, HZ holden with a 350chev on old papers.

I imagine if you wanted to further mod you would have to re-cert everything and to current standards?

Whats listed on mine is diesel conversion + 5 spd and vaccum assist brakes.

  10. This may be common knowledge but I'll put it out there....

My landrover was modded under the old pre-91 declaration system but I never got the papers on purchase (only a grainy photo). I just spoke with LVVTA who still had the record and would send me a copy.  It is perfectly ok so long as a)the rego is still live since declaration and b)the mods listed remain the same.  Simple $90 admin fee and I am away.

  11. Can you run a bank by bank mix adjustment to get value out of the duel system (like factory lambdas) or is it just helpful for diagnosis?

If yes, then it'll give you that extra flex and this isnt a project done by halves.....
