  1. If all your work is up to scratch then it wouldn't be hard. Unless your certifier decided that standard Starlet brakes weren't up to the job. Other than that, just driveshaft hoops I think?

$20-$50 sounds like a much better place to start than HG. Start with the cheapest and easiest, then work back

Oh hey 2 wheels section! Now that my AE85 is almost legal, and my kitchen/lounge are almost done, I've got a bit of bike time again. Just won the war against the seat, I'm fairly sure I have the right key for the seat, but it's seized up and won't turn and the hinges had big hoary nails instead of split pins. Just managed to fuck the nails enough to get it off. Turns out I needs a new seat, the metal frame thingy is rusted as and the vinyl is splitting anyway. On the plus side, I found the old wof tag. It'll be preserved to help prove the bike is what I say it is. I can't quite make out if the last wof was in '94 or '84. It sounds like my uncle has just bought a do up one of these too, that came with heaps of parts. Choooice. Incidentally, the same uncle who gave this bike to my cousin (not his son though). Can't wait to get stuck in. What's the best way to refinish a frame on a budget? Just wire brush and paint?
  4. Justify plz. Genuinely interested.
  5. Saw this today outside showies! Haha. Was gonna take a pic for os spotted. Then you nailed it past me up one of those little streets up the hill from there.
  6. That commentary was enthralling. Sweet video though. Was interesting that he decided to put the finger grips on the inside rather than the back.
  7. Na, that guy's a GC though. My mate does Fridays and Saturdays, slicked back hair guy (but not in a gross way). He's got about 6 hairs towards a beard haha.
  8. My mate works as a barista there (was working yesterday). Reckons there was heaps of good stuff. It was meant to be all old stuff that they hadn't sold back in the day.
  9. First break down. Decided to go for an illegal hoon up and down the road to charge the battery. On the second lap the engine died and I coasted to a stop about 25m from my house. I'm assuming it's fuel related and not spark as it just had a new fuel pump. Called the AA (I ain't got time fo' dat), the guy was a real dick. I know the policy about no wof no reg cars, but he was a real cunt about it, almost laughing when he told me he could call a tow truck that I'd have to pay full price for. Neighbor towed me home. I've got a test tomorrow so investigations in the weekend. Also discovered that the diff is leaking out all my redline oil.
  10. Time to disconnect the battery. It's still winking 2 hours later. Maybe my battery isn't actually buggered and this has been draining it every time I go away. If I can save battery money I can afford to pay someone to fix it for me
  11. Ahhh. Ok. Will need to investigate. I hate wiring. It was a pretty stressful drive home in the dark with no headlights, in a car with the wof and reg 13 years out.
  12. Yeah, I will be changing it. I won't be able to do that until after the weekend though and I was hoping to have a crack at sorting it first if it's not. So you don't think the battery is causing it? It's only started happening in the last couple of days, that I know of. It appears to have happened spontaneously though, like just out of the blue I came in and the battery was dead flat with a headlight up when it had been holding a bit of charge before that.
  13. Just drove the AE85 home and there's a new issue. The flip up headlights keep going up and down whether the lights are on or not and whether the car is running or not. I.e. I just left the car after driving home, ign off, lights off, headlights winking. When the lights were switched on, the beams worked but kept winking. The battery is definitely poked, it doesn't hold much charge, but is it causing this issue?
  14. Shit no! A 1600/1800 turbo would fucking suck in this. Either diesel or large capacity petrol for maximum torque is required.
  15. Buy an engine designed for lugging shit around, i.e. not a 3SGE or SR20 or whatever. Having to be at 6000rpm to shift your half tonne of produce will suck balls. 1UZ would be ok but thirsty, but then again, any petrol engine that has to haul around that much weight will be. Other than that it's fricken sweet. I considered taking up plumbing or electrical just so I could have some sort of unusual promo/work van.
  16. Smooooth. Thought the 85 would be legal by now, but apparently lvta are still deciding if AE85's are allowed to have factory brake/fuel lines. Next meet is the night before an exam... see you in two months.
  17. Late to the party. These are awesome. However, they are Not to be used for the other use.
  18. It's going to be cut into another type of video he's making, involving your Tercel.
  19. Sweet high stop light. Where did it come from? Edit: Never mind, found it on ebay for $5
  20. Shit yeah. Was gonna suggest I could drive down to you for a shakedown cruise once it's legal and check yours out. Then i realised that you're actually a total stranger and that might be viewed as quite forward Yeah.. it'd be tempting to go to someone else, but I really can't afford another test. Student lyfe yo. I can't afford to re route the lines either though.
  21. My new flywheel and clutch arrived the other day thanks to Alex at moonlight racing. Unknown (TRD or Toda maybe?) Flywheel and TRD clutch. Also picked these up for $70 off a facebook hustle page. Be good to be able to use 13" tyres for skids too, now I've got 13, 14 and 15 inch wheels so I can always find cheap tyres The car has now had everything finished for cert except the stupid brake and fuel lines, still hoping to talk Mr. Gee out of that. Should be happening in the next couple of days, awesome! //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/42694-sams-85-of-long-time-build/ Edit: Oh yeah, the 4.3 diff and TRD LSD (type to be confirmed) are in, can't wait to test it out. Double edit: Check out that high roller shoe mother fuckers. Triple edit: Bosch 910 pump out, new smaller capacity Walbro in.
  22. Right on. I'm guessing I've missed a few moderated comments here and I won't be surprised if mine disappears too. I fucking hate paying the council for them to tell me what I can't do (in addition to other more useful services rendered). It's my house and I'll do what I want to it. I like that you're embracing that ethic! If you know it's safe and you like it, that's all that should matter. If other people don't like it then no one is going to force them to buy it, or even walk in the front door/up that 2nd story staircase with no handrails I really like your 'lumps of concrete and bricks' retaining wall, I'll hold onto that idea!
