  1. Ahoy hoy. I'm a back-story kinda guy, so just scroll down if you want the goods So when I was 16, I asked my old man if I could get a car. He said yes and asked how much I had saved up... Well, s**t. About 6 months passed and I had been doing 3 hour shifts after school when possible making woodfired pizza bases on a foodtruck for the markets. I was almost at a grand when one day someone said I should get a hatchback as it'd be easier to park and probably more economical for getting to school etc. So one day after school, i jump on trademe, searched up hatchbacks pre 1990.. Obligatory "Lowest Price First" sort order haha, first thing that pops up "1982 Honda Accord".. 5pm, I click it, search through the photos, description, location - Everything is absolutely perfect and I didn't have the faintest clue on anything car related, Fwd & Rwd were the same thing in my books and the steering wheel changed the direction you were driving. That's it. Here's the punchline.. This thing could have been an absolute bomb and I would have been completely oblivious. However, this thing had a fresh wof, 6 months rego, 50,000 original k's with receipts and reports proving so and... Was $700!!! Only catch being, it was in Tauranga and I was in Auckland on a learners. My girlfriend at the time had her restricted and was far too good to me with literally everything haha, so her and my mum agreed to drive down to Tauranga and pick this baby up. Anyway, we get down there and the thing is perfect. No rust, no missing trims or damaged parts. Sure, the carpet was a little stained and there were a couple stone chips - but that was it! Anyway, I have no idea what i'd got, years went by of being a stupid teenager and not looking after things, I leave school and acquire a bunch of buggered cars and try do them up etc, literally like 14 or 15 of them, buy em, fondle them, sell em and so on. Long story short, this thing gets in a couple accidents, gets taken to bits, rusts a bit, gets stuck in a beach, has the ol' put the back wheels on maccas trays treatments - Again. I was a textbook pleb with it. I get to about 22 y/o, my taste in automotive had drastically grown and matured, I move back in with my old man after about 4 years of flatting and this thing sitting on the road in the rain etc. I sit in it one day, looking around at the instruments on the dash, the odo reads 80,000.. Man, 30,000 k's in this thing and i'd only had to replace two front tyres and service it. That day I decided this thing had just too much in it for me to sell it on or let it get any worse. I decided this was going to be something I could have until i'm old and crippled. So this all starts around late 2014, didn't really document the dates, just kinda remember roughly how the timeline went, pictures to follow...
  2. As you guys go on, a 1800cc old mazda engine is sounding better and better! Thanks for all the input guys, keep it up if ya want
  3. Appreciating all the input guys! Getting some good ideas, its not really for novelty or show etc, just wanting to run a reliable business, hopefully less hassle so I know I will get to the markets all summer without any hassles Keep 'em coming though!

  5. Discussion thread for - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/43713-harveys-1975-mazda-b1600-restore-wengine-swap/ Basically needing help deciding what engine to chuck in it? Also not wanting to spent my right leg on the swap, although i understand replacing diff, brakes, drivetrain, trans, engine mounts etc etc AND ENGINE.. is not going to be cheap. But so far the terms "1uzfe" and "3sge Beams" have popped up.. Thoughts anyone? Cheers
  6. Hey there guys! So here's the story, starting up a farmers market business (or two) of which are a bit of a secret for now until finished! Anywho, Got this little ute to suit the style/theme im going for - Kinda oldschool, retro ish look. And it needs to be able to chug around auckland with a good amount of weight on the tray.. Maybe 600 kilos, maybe more.. As it stands right now, it has the standard engine in there with a 4 speed column shift *cough cough* which i would like to get rid of asap! So I thought i would start here with you guys. Will post pictures etc on this thread with any progress.. 7. Woah! So much information so quick! Altezza it is! What kind of price range you rekon i'll be lookin at for the engine, ecu, loom? I might get in touch with Simon, but Im not sure if its worth it as it sits at 100ks in 4th quite nicely, and since i'll be changing the engine, there might not be much point :\ Thanks so much for the reply! Harvey
  8. Nope, I think 3t was a bit earlier ('82 or so) This one says 2S on the head if that helps?
  9. Discussion thread > viewtopic.php?f=18&t=34784 Howdy. Just picked up this mint 1986 Toyota Corona CS. Its a 2 litre, 4 cyl, RWD Wagon, picked up about a month ago for $600 on trademe with Wof and Reg, 100% straight panels, Absolutely no rust, amazing interior, only a few minor problems... > Drivers side window seal.. Doesnt have one. > Boot pumps have lost compression so boot doesnt stay open... Big deal. > It's a 5 speed, and will go into 5th gear, but doesnt engage, just has the same effect as neutral. All of these are obviously 5 minute jobs except for the gearbox, thats only an after noon job and is probably cheaper to replace with a second hand one. Anyways! So yes, this is my 100% straight, blank canvas. And I already have everything I wanna do mapped out. So here are some pictures from the auction from when I bought it, since i have removed the bumper as I dont really need it, and I think it looks better, I've got into that terrible trend of rusting panels, its really 50/50 from what i've seen on the internet of what people think of the whole rusting thing. So i'm just doing the fuel cap door hahaha, thats my 2 cents towards the trend. Also tuned up the throttle, border line pinching so response is now upto standard on the accelerator. Freaking hate the open diff. Trying to kick her out but no pull what-so-ever. So im trying for an LSD of some sort, no idea what to do for engine surgery. Wanna drop something different in it, any ideas? Got my AVS installed so I feel a bit better putting stuff into it with lower risk of getting knicked. Awesome, well i'll take some photos tomorrow and update you guys asap... pretty low on funds at the moment... So this'll take a while haha Cheers, Harvey.
  10. Hey there guys! New to the site, but been browsing as a guest for a while now, love the site so far, question though... I've just started a new project, My 1986 Toyota Corona Wagon (CS). It's a 2000cc 4 cyl RWD wagon, picked it up for $600 on trademe a few weeks back, No rust what so ever, will make a project thread soon... Anyways, my question(s) to you guys is.. Do the ke70 (DX) shells from the corolla's fit the Corona wagons as i know they almost look identical in panels, the back is the same (lights and boot) Im just wondering if the panels would fit? Or even the gear box etc, Its just that finding parts for this corona has been a b**** these last 3 or 4 weeks. Cheers guys!
